Let me say I think we were justified in running GS based on what we know about the guy... professional coaching record, personality, with the Penn st. stuff adding extra incentive as to question why would we hire the guy.

But if we're real real about this and answer honestly, you know if it was a top tier coach with a great coaching record, great personality, basically a perfect fit for UT with the only blemish being that he was on the staff at Penn St. during the Sandusky stuff and there was a report that there was a possibility that he witnessed it... You know the majority of us would be arguing the other way. "oh it's 2nd hand hearsay" "He was never indicted" "tOSU vetted him, and hired him as DC..."

You KNOW we (myself included) would be magically looking past the penn st. stuff. Come on you know it's true. I’m not saying the national media has grounds to lambast us like they have. Just saying if we’re honest with ourselves, you know this is true.

How do I know this is true?
  • We got people that want Petrino with his history that actually happened... (FTR i'd be okay with Petrino, no moral high ground here...)
  • We got people that want Kiffin with his morally questionable history... (FTR i'd be okay with bringing back Kiffin, no moral high ground here...)
  • We as a fan base had thousands sign a petition to fire a sitting head coach and bring back a guy that was a documented liar... (FTR I signed the petition, no moral high ground here...)
  • We've backed HOW MANY players that have been accused of various crimes including rape (AJ Johnson, comes to mind) and have screamed for their reinstatement if they were found innocent by the legal community... Shiano wasn't even on trial for his association with the Penn St. stuff...

Come on... be real real with yourself for a second... :hi:

IMO you are way off base with AJ reference. So many holes in that woman’s story including her destroyed cell phone. The law and truth do not always walk hand in hand

I wouldn't. Not with what he had hanging over his head.

Now I could get on board with adulterers, job hoppers, and maybe even some light lying. But zero hint of anything containing child rape. That's a big no every time no matter who they are.

The problem is ... that wasn't the only blemish on his record. The media, which is desperate to protect their guy, seems to be blatantly overlooking a long history of ethical issues, including his entire time at Tampa Bay. He was known as a lying, abusive autocrat and there are literally dozens of articles about his disastrous time there, from many of the same media sources that are now suddenly preaching about how he's "a high character guy" whose "ethics are beyond reproach." He was so toxic after Tampa that he could not get a job for 2 years. Yet, suddenly, he's an angel with the highest integrity.

The whole media spin is BS. His likely knowledge of Sandusky's crimes is just icing on the cake of a resume filled with integrity issues. Seriously, this scumbag actually ordered his players at Tampa to dive at the opposing team's knees during kneel-down plays at the end of games. How much lower can you go than that?

I don't want Bobby Petrino either, but Petrino looks like an angel compared to Schiano.

I agree with this. The guy is simply not qualified for this job and is a horrible fit. The Sandusky stuff has always been secondary for me... why have that floating over your university if you can avoid it. Sucks if it's not true but not our problem.

Don't agree on any of your bullet points. I don't want Petrino or Kiffin, and I want any rapist brought to justice. Having said that, evidence against AJ was weak. Still ruint his career though.

What I do agree with is that the moral outrage against Schiano is definitely influenced by his slightly above average Butch-like coaching record. No question.

Stop believing the MSM. Hiring anyone even associated with that scandal is just a bad look for TN in many ways.

Also, even if we had kept Schiano, we would be criticized by the national media for having someone affiliated with the Penn State scandal.

This entire debacle was a lose-lose scenario for TN that John Currie and the Haslam's should have never gotten us into to begin with.

To add to your list:

Jim Bob Cooter got drunk and climbed into a window of a house, stripped down to his drawers and got into bed with a women he didn't know. Has a sexual assault charge on his record.

Haha exactly, and even with those facts there are still people denying it. What statues are vlm going to tear down and make excuses for next?

You shouldn’t leave out that not one of your examples included possibly knowing about child rape, and saying nothing. AJ story, like was mentioned, had too many fishy things about it. However, I said then, and say now, if he’s guilty I hope he rots. If GS really knew anything and kept silent, I hope his junk rots off. We have a bad enough brand already, we don’t need anymore attention with that crap. Jmo

All of this media stuff is such BS. If we had hired Schiano and there were zero outrage along the way all we'd be hearing is how UT had to "settle" for some loser coach...and believe me they would bring up the Penn St stuff as a knock against him too. We can't win with the media no matter what. Not all of them. There are some media out there who are on our side...but for some reason so many of them have it in for us no matter what.

Right, i'm just saying those that are saying the Penn St. stuff is an automatic disqualifier regardless anything else is lying or a part of a very small %, many of whom have decided to post in this thread yet 450+ others (views) have stayed mum.

I rest my case.

Child pedophilia is a no deal for me.

I don't care if it was Nick Saban.

Some things are more important than football.

And the national media would be blasting Tennessee for hiring someone from that background. The mistake was ever getting involved with him in the first place. No one else has mentioned him even as a suspect for a coaching job so if we're crazy, we're not alone.

I think his questionable role in the Sandusky case is deplorable, but quite frankly this isn’t what bothers me.
His poor coaching record and player relationships is.
We can and will do better.

Now everyone is acutely aware of your man crush on Schiano and your love of rubbing UT fans ( y’all as you like to put it) noses in the mud. You have done this for several pages and threads. So you have made your point. It is on record. We are tired of hearing it.
Can you please go back to Rutgers, or Ohio State threads and tell your rabid dog handlers we wish they would go away for the good of the university.

It was purged. JBC has no assault OR DUI record in Knoxville.
