If we take care of Ohio...

Two teams above us will lose, without question:

--> #2 FSU @ #10 Louisville
--> #3 OSU @ #14 OU

Three of the four (FSU, Louisville, and Oklahoma) would drop below us after a loss; Ohio State would probably only drop to about the #10 position.

So that's one, maybe two, steps up for the Vols.

After that, it's all maybes. As many as three other teams could fall from above:

--> #7 Stanford, against USC
--> #11 Texas, facing off against Cal
--> #12 Michigan St, playing #18 ND

My guess says one of those loses, the other two win. BUT one of the winners might play ugly enough to give up a spot to us anyway.

Therefore, as long as we win impressively as we should over Ohio, I can see us rising two to four spots.

Say three as a good intermediate guess.

Look for the Vols to be #12 in the AP poll next Sunday afternoon.

Go Vols!

Here is one of the flaws in human polls. Let's say Ohio State V. OU & FSU V. Louisville are extremely close games and UT is lackluster V. Ohio.

Should UT jump up only because they won? I say you have to look at the opponent.

Where do we end up in the polls for week 4? We are currently at #15 in the AP poll. Looking at the week 3 schedule there are at least 2 teams ahead of us that will lose. I bet we are right around #10 again going into the Florida game, with them at #15-#18.

I agree with about #10. They will want us in the top ten against the gators for better TV ratings.

That is indeed one of the flaws of the human polls. Losing demands punishment, and--where possible--winning demands reward.

Though it might not always make sense if you look more closely.

Last time we beat Florida in 2004, we were ranked 13th. If we move up to 13 this week it's a sign!!

No way to tell what the polls will reflect regardless of the outcome. I think they fired the first shot over the bow with their placement of Auburn.
