If we make the final four does Barnes retire?

He doesn't look close to being ready.
He doesn't, but I'd think he would consider it. Outside of winning it all, accomplishing something like a school's first F4 at his age would cement his legacy. He still has his health and can enjoy the remaining years of his life as a father and grandfather.

I think He’s done after this year regardless of result.

I hope he stays, but for some reason this feels like the end.

Barnes has quite the roster to retool and sustain the success. But I think if we make the Final Four or even make the natty or even win it, Barnes likely loses some of the staff. Gainey is likely to get a strong look at the NC State job.

I would be shocked if he retired after this season. I think UT goes all in next year. I dont have any inside information though. Just a hunch but I think he coaches 2 more years to break 900 wins.

If Rick Barnes coaches 2 more seasons he will be top 5 all time. Bobby Knight has 899, Barnes has 860. Roy Williams has 903 at #5. Calipari and Self are right with him. All 3 could surpass Williams at 903. Elite to get to 900 wins. Barnes would just need 43 to pass Roy. That's a given if he coaches 2 more seasons.

I agree with your take.
Let me start a thread asking if Tennessee makes the final 4 will the guy responsible for that who also seems to really enjoy what he's doing retire?
It's the trolls of Volnations way

Good thing both Kim English and Matt McMahon are available to enter the Rick Barnes Coaching Rehab Clinic 😂
