I think we win. After letting the hurt and anger go over getting beat by the worst FL team I've seen in quite a while at home, I started looking at some of the more emotional parts of the game. I think the emotions of the players (along with the fans) got the best of them over the course of the game.

The team came out wanting desperately wanting to end the streak, saw the incredible checkerboard layout of the fans and began to press right from the beginning. As the game progressed and things didn't go our way, they became more emotional and anxious (the uncharacteristic penalties is a prime example of this IMO) and began to press even more. While a lot of folks don't want to accept that youth and experience play a major role in the games, I think this is one of the occasions where the youth of the team showed as they were not able to release the anxiety and perform to their highest caliber.

If we had played in the Swamp, I believe that a lot of that anxiety would have been on FL to keep the streak alive and our boys would have played much looser and therefore better.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

They beat us with a backup qb last year. At. The. Swamp.

Only UT uses the scary fans as an excuse to lose.

That will teach those fans for coming out and putting pressure on our guys! For crying out loud, why can't you all just stay home? You make it impossible for Butch to win here what with all noise and cheering and stuff.

Without an atleast mediocre OL or OC that can call plays that has the ball thrown more than 3 yards past the LOS, or for God's sake simply not behind the LOS, we lose to this Florida team anywhere we play them 9 times out of 10.

I think the OP has a good point. The team played tight and committed mistakes that are out of character for this team.

Didn't say the fans caused anything...just said that the emotions that the players were feeling overwhelmed them at times.

I actually agree. I was at the game and felt the same way at times. Another thing is that I think some of the critical false starts would not have happened at away games. At home they are going off of Worley's voice, but away games you move off the ball since you can't hear which sometimes is easier than being at home.

I might buy that had we come out and got behind 2 scores like UF did.

We didn't lose the football because of too little or too much emotion. We didn't play very well early but still managed a lead and then we blew it.

Florida owns us they would beat us in any stadium from here to anywhere across the world. Each year I try to convince myself otherwise by buying into the hype. Its like one of those nights where you had way too much to drink and swear off booze the next mornin

Lol. I have officially heard it all. Neyland is now a negative factor for our team. If this were the case, Vandy would be a perennial powerhouse, because you can usually hear a pin drop in their stadium.

This board is becoming a joke. There are threads telling people to quit crying and give this staff time, but those same people are making threads crying about different reasons we lost the game (refs, location, youth and depth)

Look the reasons we lost Saturday are very simple.

1. Red Zone efficiency sucked. 4 trips - 9 Points
2. Worley didn't feel the rusher coming from his FRONT side and coughed up the fumble that was the turning point in the game.

So no, being in the swamp would not have helped.
Different play calling may have or may not have helped. Most likely no!
Firing our OC will not help!
You can't wish the OL bigger, stronger, more experienced, it will take time.

The only thing preventing this team from winning 5 of their last 7 games is making plays when they are there to be made, and not trying to make plays when they are not!

Cases in point
Catch the stinking football Josh Malone, may have been a TD on the west side going into the south EZ.
Throw the ball away Justin Worley instead of forcing a red zone throw on first down immediately after a TO.

Real players make plays! Note to team; shut up and make a d*mn play!

Some people really can't read very well can they?

No one said Neyland was a negative...uncontrolled emotions can be.

No he doesn't.

I've seen some excuse making, but this may be the dumbest yet.

Obviously you haven't ever done anything that requires performing at a very high level. Emotions play a huge part of any performance. The team made a lot of mistakes throughout the game, players and coaches alike. All of those things go into a loss.

Yeah, but Butch said we shouldn't play with emotion...just passion. :)
So, isn't it the coaches' responsibility to eliminate the emotion? Jus' sayin'. :whistling:
GO VOLS!
