Just a thought of an interesting discussion guys...If we went into the Ole Miss game in the top 10, not saying by any stretch of the imagination that it happens, what do you think that says for the direction Kiffin has the program heading in and what big game(s) do you guys think that we won to put ourselves in that spot?

IMO, that means we pulled off an upset of the Gators(Which I don't think is likely) or we beat Bama(Again not likely but of the two big road games before the Ole Miss game I think we have a better shot in this one than in Gainseville)

What do you guys think? Like I said I'm not saying its going to happen but IF it does, what do you guys think that it says about what Kiffin is bringing to the program and the work ethic of this staff and players?

The benefits this program would reap would be as unfathomable as this situation appears to be.

I think that at it would show a lot of the doubters in the conference and in the media that UT is on its way back to the top, that's for sure...I hope it happens but I'm not holding my breath for it

Oh yeah, I agree. I would love to see our recruiting list on VolQuest look like Florida's and Alabama's and USC's. I think this season is definitely more make than break for Kiff & Co., but he could kickstart his legend with a couple of big wins, or even with the absence of some sloppy losses.

A big win over one of the big 3 this year would be awesome....I know we can beat UGA if they get the boys ready to play and with this staff I don't think they will have a problem with motivation by any means, and UGA only beat the worst UT team in 20+ years by 12 and we were in the game going into the 4th quarter and that was supposed to be the best UGA team in a LONG time...Bama is the game out of the two BIG rivalry games I think we got a shot at and that's just because they have an unknown at QB

I think if people will leave Kiffin alone our recruiting list will rival those 3 you mentioned, it's already looking pretty darn good for this year...We will get a QB, I got faith in this staff, if Fulmer and Co. were still at the helm, and this is in no way a bash on the staff but once a kid said he was going else where it was like it was time to move on, these guys on this staff are relentless and if we get a couple more good skill players to commit we will be turning some heads...JMO

We're already turning heads. You better believe other SEC fans (and coaches) are taking a great interest in Tennessee's recruiting. Fulmer brought in a lot of great talent, but there's something different about the kids coming in now. We're no longer seeking out just the diamonds in the rough, we're stealing top talent right out from other coaches noses! If these recruits are already buying into Kiffin's gameplan, can you imagine what will happen when he puts a winning program on the field? I'm excited!

I agree, other SEC Coaches are taking notice and they should but I think it will really start taking shape when we beat some of our rivals...As far as the recruiting trail goes, yeah its great to take kids way from UF and Bama and everything but IMO the top talent always wants to go to USC, or at least that's how it seems now days...IMO if we want to get the top talent in the country we have to beat out USC, UF, and Bama for it and we are already taking some kids from Florida and Bama...USC its been a little tougher because to them an off year is the Rose Bowl, but its a compliment in several ways to be recruiting some of these kids so closely with them, especially coming off a 5-7 season

You're exactly right about USC. How do you recruit against that? Do you think they even need Scroggins? Great players go to USC because "that's where great players go." Eventually (hopefully) they will say that about us.

Before 2 losing seasons in 4 years they did say that about is...I was a Fulmer supporter and I will always wish him well in life but he needed to go, the program was on such a decline it was ridiculous...The only way you can recruit against that is going on up on them and win some SEC Championships and get to the NC game

The allure of playing at USC, Florida, et al...will always be there. Sometimes it seems as though we will never have the same moxie and appeal as them. But I think we're getting our edge back...the one we had back in the early nineties. I loved Fulmer and I know we'll never have another coach that loves the school as much as he does, but I'm happy to have the new blood. I expect great things in the next few years. Goodnight and Go Vols!

You two want a room? :) I think what it says about our program is that we actually did have the athletes and the playmakers that many, including people on this board, don't think we have this year. It also means we are probably having good qb play which further strengthens the argument that clwson's offense was the major reason for the lack of production last year

Of course that's always going to be there, either place you go it's sunny and 70 year round with beach and hot chicks all over the place...As much as I like Knoxville, its no match for that, closest thing we got to that is the lakes lol

Hey easy now LOL....Just having a conversation lol

I know we have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball, I really think it was just that god awful system Clawson tried to run...IMO, with the exception of QB he had the same talent on that side of the ball that Cutcliffe did minus a lineman or two and those guys weren't that great that he didn't have...I understand QB is the biggest position the field and most important, but I just can't think that Crompton or Stephens for that matter are as bad as they showed last year...Clawson couldn't call plays or for that matter win games, and ultimately that brought the entire program down

That being said, I know that there is a talent gap betweeen UF, Bama, and UT...I think we are a year behind Bama but could pop up and upset them this year in Bryant Denny if we show up to play...But IMO as far as UF goes, we fell behind 2 years to them, even with the class we pulled in last year, but its not just us that's behind them, the entire SEC and the country is behind them with the exception of maybe USC and to be honest with you I think if they played on neutrel field Florida would beat them too, simply because USC wouldn't play anyone close to UF all year, or anyone that would give them a game, they will lose to someone that they were favored over big(USC that is) like they do every year, but that's it, they play nobody with the exception of OSU

Call it coaching. Before Carroll, USC had their dry spell as well. Build it and they will come.
