And we still celebrated a 9 win season. We didnt say Botch won 8 and a bowl game. In our eyes its a 9 win season period. Now if they stop allowing seniors to play in the bowl games and the stats stop counting towards regular season stats then we might be on the same page

You might have, unless we hit 9 wins in the regular season, I celebrate 8 wins and a bowl win.

Overall record, sure, season record no. Butch Jones never won 9 games during a regular season at UT; he got to 8 wins and won bowl games those years.

Bowls, are literally, post-season games, and given that half of FBS gets one, are relatively meaningless outside of the CFP.

For most teams, a bowl invite, is an affirmation of at least getting to .500 on the season.
Ask any football player, coach AD had many games did you play last year and you will anywhere from 12 to 15 depending on how many games they practiced for, played in or coached in. That is also the number of games which are included in your NCAA record for that particular year. When a kicker kisks 12 field goals in a year, it is not broken down ; well i kicked 12 in the first 12 games, 1 in the SEC Championship game. one in the CFC 1st round and 1 in the CFC finals. His number for that year is 15, not 12 +1, +1, +1 for a total of 15.

It's rather comical to see someone try to wiggle out of something when they have made a mistake, but I do give you credit for trying.

We were 13-0 in ‘98. That’s the long and short of it, then and now.

The season would be a sign of good things to come. Some will look at it as what could have been and others will look at it as a success. My take is "if" this team finishes 8-5 it is simply a sign of good things to come. The season will be proof that a culture change is occurring and the team is learning to win. 8-5 will positively impact recruiting, increase offseason buzz with fans, increase season ticket sales and keep the Vols relevant in the media especially when the preseason chatter begins for next year. 8-5 might even lead to a top 25 preseason ranking next year. Expectations will be raised and the 2020 Vols will be tested early with a game 2 trip to Norman to face undoubtedly a top 7 team in Oklahoma who will in all likelyhood be lead by 2019 5* QB Spencer Rattler. 8-5 this year simply makes next year even more exciting!

Go Vols

An extraordinary event not explicable by natural or scientific laws. Such an event that is supernatural, magical, a miracle. A extremely outstanding or unusual accomplishment by a team that wasn't suppose to happen. Which in turns causes the UT masses to exclaim that next year we will contend for the SEC east title. 😁

If we go to a bowl with 6 wins and lose the bowl, watch who regurgitates over and over and over Pruitt's record in his second year was 6-7.

Even if that happens, it will still be a better record than his first year. So, progress.

Semantics

No, its a big fuggin deal, boy. Let them straighten this out, our season depends on it.

Glad you quoted that. Funny to see who celebrates 8 wins and a meaningless bowl win. Lol.

Crucify me if you want...but I say coach of the year material...

Think about it...you start the season with arguably the worst loss in school history, you follow it with an absolute heart breaker you had in the bag...at that point you have a roster full of kids you mostly didn’t recruit you have to keep from quitting on you, you have a clear issue at QB with no clear answer and two freshmen as your only fallback, you have issues still at every level of the defense and every level of the offense except WR...and you are facing the meat of your schedule with most people thinking 2-10 is a real possibility and 3-9 is a best case scenario...

I’m telling you...I know he won’t get coach of the year from any publication...but it would be one of the most spectacular turnarounds I’ve ever personally witnessed

Maybe not this year. It's common knowledge that CP, and the coaching staff, took GA State as a "pre-season" type game against a very inferior team. When they got smacked in the mouth, that took a real toll on the team. They still had not recovered from that first game when we played BYU, and that carried on through the FL game. We finally started showing some life against GA, and we have continued to improve from there. I'll give CP all the credit in the world for turning things around, but the first two loses for sure, and the hangover against FL, falls directly on CP for not having the team prepared properly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in CP's camp all the way. I think the start of this season has taught him a very valuable lesson in his growth as a head coach, and I hope he's here for many years.

More tough games to play before even thinking about this. First I want to see them maintain the intensity they have shown in the last few games till the end of the season. CJP had the right statement, " we haven't done anything yet"

If you had told me we were going to lose to Georgia State and BYU but go 5-3 in the SEC, I would have told you that you were crazy. I would definitely be happy with an 8-5 season considering where we have been the last several years. The last time we went 5-3 in the SEC was probably 2014?

I like the FPI article's take on this. We're capable of winning all the games left on our schedule. A surprise with our start. But, we're equally capable to lose any of the remaining games (except maybe UAB). No let down this year, please.

To me, this has felt so much like the 1994 season without all of the griping and fire coach speak. And, without the Washington or Washington State 10-9 win.

A phenomenal end result based on the way this season started. And call me crazy...but I believe we’ll get there. Or at least get to 7-5 going into our bowl game

I think 7-5 is highly doable for Tennessee and if they finish 8-5 after the Bowl Game they will be ranked in the 2020 Preseason Top 25 College Football Polls.

**But it would actually be 7-5 in regular season and 1-0 in the post season.

An awesome feel-good story with real momentum built, but can't help but be furious that we missed out on a 9-3 season, a NY bowl, and a possibility at a 10-win season (first since 2007) because we went 5-3 in SEC but somehow found ways to lose to freaking GSU and BYU.

Known as the season of what might have been...

What might have been if the guys bought in earlier, played harder at key moments, caused a couple more things to fall their way...oh what might have been.
Aren’t they all?

It would be another season of Tennessee football. Obviously a winning season but even if they don’t go bowling I’m still a fan because I understand mental and physical strain and I see those young men fighting through both. Go vols baby 🤙 future looks bright
