If we go 10-2...

10-2 and playing in Atlanta takes the program to a new level. Ended the UF streak and got our own streak going against UGA now.

This season was massive because it was a turning point for Jones and the Vols. Either we began a slow descent back towards mediocrity, or the momentum continued to build. So far it looks like the latter is happening.

A win on Saturday would be massive, but even with a loss, the team will be huge favorites to win out afterward and go 10-2. That makes recruits take notice and see that the uptick isn't just to be competitive in the East, but to win it. Butch can and will capitalize and keep Tennessee competitive for the foreseeable future.

Hard to argue 👍

Mizzou won in the Swamp in 2014.

Different coach. Mizzou's defense also has yet to allow less than 400 yards when playing FBS teams this year.

And with an offense running plays at an average of every 17.4 seconds, it's likely their defensive numbers won't be getting any better when their offense starts struggling again and their defense has to take the field without any rest, again.

He was correcting another poster. Doesn't matter that they had a different coach.

I thought this was an 11-1 team back in the summer and I still think that's what we should be. The aTm loss was unfortunate. When you overcome 7 TOs to get to dOT, you have to finish. It should all still be on the table, though, at 10-2. Just have to get healthy, get to ATL and see if we can take it all the way to Tampa and send Sutton, JRM, Dobbs, Barnett, Vereen, Hurd and Kamara off in style.

10-2 is nice but I truly believe that this is the week we play our first complete game of the year and beat Bama. After going 6-1 it will make 10-2 unacceptable.

Florida and LSU will play. Book it.

So, we're back to the "Need Florida to lose a game thing"

It's got to be either LSU, UGA or Ark that beats them. We shall see.
Remember, we backed into the 2007 SECCG game... I bet Florida would love to return that favor.

We didn't back into anything. We beat UGA (soundly I might add). They didn't. They also lost to LSU and Auburn while we only dropped Bama. If they were so good they would have lost one less game.

ANYONE that says we "backed in" to the 07 SECCG can pound sand.

Ah gotcha, my bad.

I thought he was saying that Missouri had won there last time, to say it was reasonable to predict them this weekend; I was more pointing out Missouri's having a different coach in that context.

Again, my bad. I misunderstood.

I will take 10-2. Deep down, I thought that next year would be our year similar to how we thought Peyton's senior year would be the National Championship year but it came the following year.

10-2 is fine as long as it puts us in the SECCG. The SEC winner will likely still get a playoff spot even with 2 losses.

Now 11-1 would be 10000x better

Mizzou has some skill on offense.

Their defense can play better.

They can beat Florida i think.
Matchups are everything.

We need the Gators to lose to get to SECCG.
I'm not sure who would beat them honestly.

they have a way of weasling through the second half of the season.

Erroneous. UF still needs us to lose one more. We have not lost to Bama and we quite possibly may not. We are still in control and in the drivers seat even if this weekend will be a mighty challenge to that control.

Missouri's offense has only worked/had success against an FCS team, Eastern Michigan, and a struggling UGA team (which it repeatedly couldn't get out of its own way enough to keep from giving UGA the game). A good defense like LSU shut it down easily, as did West Virginia's not so great defense.

Their defense has given up 400+ yards of offense against every team they've played except for the FCS team: so along with the 634 yards they gave up to LSU, they also allowed almost 500 yards of offense to West Virginia, 428 yards to Eastern Michigan, and 409 yards to UGA. Their HC's and DC's new overall of their defense has resulted in a defense falling around the mid-80's in the country that isn't great against the pass (mid-70's), is very bad against the run (90th in the country), and has given up the 42nd most points in the country. Their defense needs to play better, but at this point I'm not sure it's fair to say that it actually can play better against the better teams (for comparison, they were about the 8th or 9th best defense in the country last year).

Florida's defense is not a good matchup for their offense, and every minute long drive and punt they put together with their always-no-huddle offense also becomes less time for their defense to rest, which catches up to them...and frankly there's not much in the way of Power 5 teams that their defense matches up well against at this point, either.

Sokay, just don't let it happen again.

No..record needs to be 11-1. 10-2 may be an improvement but we only have maybe 3 full minutes of game time when we were actually winning for us to enjoy as fans. If i'm going to have to be pissed off for 4 hours with maybe 30 seconds of excitement at the end, i'm going to need a better record.

You don't count the 6 and a half days of can't-stop-smiling happiness after each win as a plus, too? You turn off the TV and adopt the Eeyore face immediately? :)

part of my fulfillment comes from watching the anguish and disgust on our opposing fans faces and from watching them leave the stadium early. I haven't had my fill of that yet. :pilot:

10-2 could possibly be seen as over achieving with all of our injuries.

So yes, I would be thrilled and so should everyone else.

They have 4 very losable games..GA,@ LSU,@ Army and SCe who usually gives them fits. Zero chance they win in Fayetteville and in Death Valley. They lose both of their West games.

10-2 gets UT to the SEC title game against alabama. Florida, with their bad offense, will lose for sure to lsu and arkansas, and maybe even georgia. In the rematch in Atlanta, an upset is possible.
