Does anyone have some insight regarding Cincy? Their offense can obviously score points, but what about their defense?

Didn't realize it had been that long. Anyway, mark it down, we'll be 2-0. Then bring on the gators!

We will see. Channey didn't show all UT offence in first game. And i really don't think you will see all of it before Flordia game. When we hit the SEC part of it then we will get a better feel for this team. I think the O-line will be good. It was the first game and had the delay with weather. I think Dooley and his coaches will get all this taken care of.

should be a tough game... I don't expect a lot of defense... could be a game where both teams get in the 30's

They have a very average front four, good speed at linebacker, and a lousy secondary.Bray will carve them up and if our line does anything there should be room to run.

Trying to be optimistic, but not overly confident. I think it will be a hard fought game for sure with the defensive weakness of both teams. No matter what the outcome, I think CDD has us headed in the right direction. I will be ecstatic if we are 2-0 coming into the UF game.

I disagree about the front four. Its good. A few analysts have it as a top 20 - 30 defensive line.

Secondary does suck though. They won't be able to cover D. Rogers and Hunter. It will look worse than Montana, who at least could cover one of them at a time.

A win is a win, but I would prefer to establish the running game over airing it out all day. Hopefully we'll establish a balanced attack against Cincy and control the clock.

Not quite sure what this analysis is based on. Last year's defense was thin everywhere. Our D-line played two many snaps, we had essentially two linebackers the whole season. The secondary was playing true freshmen by the 8th game due to injuries.

This year's team has better depth up front They had constant pressure on AP Saturday in the half the first team played. They blitzed exactly two plays in the first half. The starting DTs both weigh around 300. Derek Wolfe is very good. The ends are 250 and 260 lbs. They get good rush off the edge.

The LBs have good speed, but are young. There are three true freshmen in the second and third LB groups.

The DBs have more experience than last year's and are healthy. Will that make a difference? Don't know. But in 2006, we had a bunch of young DBs that got torched a lot. In 2007, they were pretty good. In 2008 and 2009, Mike Mickens, DeAngelo Smith, Brandon Underwood, Haruki Nakamura, and company were the best backfield in the Big East. We re hoping these backs, who are more athletic than that group, will develop similarly.

Stats from last week don't mean much, but the first team defense, who played the first half, allowed 3.7 yards per play (not per run, but per play). Austin Peay scored their 10 points against the UC 2s (the FG) and 3s (AP's TD).

What will happen Saturday? No one really knows. We think this defense is significantly better. Playing UT will tell us a lot. Turnovers will be a big factor. UC's defense didn't force many turnovers last year. They forced five last week. Tennessee fumbled 6 times and recovered them all.

It will be interesting.

Everything that I read in preseason mags had their front four in the middle of the pack in the big east. That is a weak football confrence.Average d-line at best.

Dude the Big East is not the SEC.I watched a few of UCs games last year including that debacle against Pitt.I watched the gam the other night when UC played that high school team.I read three preseason mags.I think UC has a fast high paced offense and an overmatched defense.

-I'm not ready to say the DE's are a vast improvement over last year. Walter Stewart should help the pass rush but it's tough to tell, as you said, against an over matched Austin Peay offensive unit. Overall the increased depth across the defense- and especially on the defensive line- should provide the 'Cats with a better overall performance on D.

-At LB UC should be a good unit all year long as long as they stay healthy. JK Schaffer is the senior leader and permanent captain of the team (along with QB Zach Collaros) and his running mate is Malik Bomar. The third starter is Maryland transfer and 5th year senior Ben Pooler. As 85 stated behind those three, there is a lot of talent and youth.

-I see turnovers as the key to this game. It was the main reason why UC was 4-8 last season as they had a MINUS FIFTEEN turnover differential. The 'Cats went +5 against Austin Peay and I saw a concerted effort (once again obviously against an over matched opponent) to get to the ball carrier and create fumble opportunities. Six fumbles in a game is a bit of an anomaly I think. But just as six fumbles without losing a single one is also an anomaly. As a fan base that saw a team that couldn't hold onto the ball last year, fumbles are like a cancer and they're going to bite you eventually if you keep putting it on the ground.

Hahahaha

You read three preseason mags? Alright there Colin Cowherd. I won't disagree with you that UC's offense is ahead of their defense but you honestly believe just because UT plays in the SEC they will beat UC? I'm not arguing the SEC is the best conference in College Football- because it is. And I'm not arguing that the Big East is a large step behind- because it is. But in this match up, I believe that anyone that looks at it objectively will see that UT should be a SLIGHT favorite and nothing more.

Lol munchie legaux is a RB?

No. He's the back up QB. He's from New Orleans, thus the last name. We basically have two back up QB's as Jordan Luallen, a transfer from Georgia Tech is also right there and UC has a "Wildcat" type package they will run with him that presents a run/pass option.
