Your definition of "not very good" is suspect...There isn't 10 teams in the country better than us...we are a playoff caliber team easily
Not to mention this is who he had to beat to go to the SEC title game (and lost to Auburn on the road by 30 points)In fairness Kirby took over a loaded roster

My apologies, I should’ve specified National. They were winning the SEC here and there under Richt. They fired him to try and win it all. For several years they looked the same under Smart until he finally broke through. Heupel has brought us to heights we haven’t seen since Fulmer and now you’re wanting to run him off. It’s foolish.Kirby was a SEC champion in year 2. If we are comparing Heupel to Kirby, that’s going to make Heupel look bad.
Honestly CJH reminds me a bit of Fulmer. Always had good offense and running game. Would always get conservative with a lead in the fourth and depend on defense more than most liked. We spent many a nervous fourth quarter watching Chavis mustang bend don’t break defense secure wins the “ugly” way. Eventually the stars aligned and ‘98 happened.
Well it’s year 5 and the portal era, it’s time we get over the roster Heupel inherited. He still isn’t leading a championship caliber program and never will due to some flaws that haven’t changed a bit in 5 years.
What’s funny is that even if I go out of my way to say that he should not be fired, any criticism is met with “you want Heupel fired.” Reread my OP and tell me what I said in regards to Heupel’s job security. My apologies, I should’ve specified National. This is an insane take....We will see.
Just in SEC alone I think Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Missouri, Texas, and LSU could all be better than Tennessee. That is 8 teams. We are definitely not better than Ohio State and probably not Indiana or Oregon. I am also not confident Tennessee could beat Miami, Notre Dame, or Texas Tech right now. Not sure about Southern Cal or Michigan.
If we win at Alabama this weekend, I will change my view.
Your misery and negativity are at all time highs. Nothing unusual, but I think they gave you some bad jello yesterday afternoon.Heupel is not a championship coach. He’s much better than anyone we have had since Kiffin and deserves respect and job security for what he has done so far. Let’s do the damned thing
Notre Dame handled Arkansas pretty well. This is an insane take....
obviously UGA beat us, but we are at least their equals, if we hit the FG to win, would you believe this?
Ole Miss, Mizzou, Texas A&M, Oklahoma hasn't done anything to show they are better than us even against weak schedules, LSU has had better schedule but their offense hasn't been anything dangerous
Bama sure they could beat us in Tuscaloosa, but they got drilled at FSU so we will see how good they are this week
Indiana hasn't beaten anyone but Oregon (which was a good win) but who knows how good either really are...
Miami and Ohio St have the talent, but let's see at playoff time.
Notre Dame is not that good at all, Texas Tech hasn't played anyone either...USC maybe...Michigan is a joke
You are just assuming a lot in a year where no team looks great or dominant....

Part of the reason why he isn’t a championship coach is stubborn loyalty to underperforming or straight up bad staff members. That is just dumb, Heupel is a great coach but Banks needs to go and Martinez needs to go. The defense is a major liability that is affecting the offense. It’s the main reason we can’t take risks on fourth down and it’s the main reason the offense has had to change its tempo. The defense simply cannot get off the field remotely consistently and looks absolutely lost much of the time. Banks doesn’t run a complicated scheme and he doesn’t run a fundamentally sound scheme. A guy who wasn’t even running a defense fielded a defense in two weeks at Arkansas that performed as well, possibly even better, than a coordinator who has spent five seasons building and developing players
You are assuming again about UGAGeorgia - we had them at home. They win by 2 TDs in Athens. I think there is at least a 7 point swing for home games
Missouri and Texas A&M are compete teams on both sides of the ball. Texas A&M won at Notre Dame. Missouri beat a solid Kansas team. We will see about them. We play Oklahoma so that will answer that question. Let's see how Ole Miss fares against Georgia. If they get blown out, I will agree with you.
Alabama isn't the same team that lost to FSU. They drilled Georgia in Athens and have now won three games in a row against ranked teams.
Indiana also mashed a very good Illinois team. They look like a top 5 team. Winning at Oregon is no small feat, what happened when Tennessee last went to Oregon?
We saw what Ohio State did in playoff team last year against Tennessee. We had a better defense that year as well that got exposed.
I was tempted to put Florida on the list because the way they are playing, they could beat us in Gainesville. They beat Texas there. We have given up 30+ points in all three of our SEC games. That isn't a good look.
You forgot to mention that both of our starting CBs have not played since the 1st half of the Syracuse game(and one has yet to suit up if he ever does). On top of that, a 3rd starting DB had an apparent meltdown and is only now seeming to get back to somewhat resembling what we saw from him last year.If we are going to face facts, we need to admit that
1. Our beloved 5* QB left the Vols just prior to Spring practice to selfishly improve his chances of making more money in the NIL
2. The Vols were left with NO QBs with any real game time experience - esp in the SEC
3. The Vols coaching staff, which btw includes our Head Coach Josh Heupel, somehow and miraculously convinced Joey A to come to Knoxville to hopefully save our season
4. Joey A. currently has passed for 1,680 yards, 14 Touchdowns and 5 Int's
5. The Vols are currently 5-1, 2-1
6. Coach Heupel didn't miss the field goal attempt. We would be 6-0 and in the Top 5 if we made that kick
7. We have had injuries on almost every series in every game. Never seen anything like it.
Therefore, your deductive reasoning for CJH to not be of championship caliber, is as worthless as a Bobby Petrino motorcycle excuse. Stick to your day job, please
