Theres some wierd mojo going on between our two programs.

The common opponents we played last year.
Our sudden recruiting stuggle with them.

Last year we were a few plays away from possibly playing them.

We are very similar to them. I actually think were as talented.

If this happens- meeting them in a bowl game (2017 literally).
How do we fair against them??

Tennessee is equal or better than Clemson at every position besides QB. Alabama beat them with a worse QB, but he was better than Dobbs so it would be close. I still like the Vols to win because of just how dominant the defense will be. I predict it will be one of the best in the last 15 years or so.

I'll have more confidence in the Vols defense once I actually see them perform at a very high level in the SEC against Florida, Georgia and Alabama

On paper, the Vols seem to be set pretty well on defense if a couple of starters can get healthy in time for SEC play

Good thing is we have veterans like Danny Obrien and Vickers who can play some while the monster gets healthy.

Barnett played very very well the times he played DT. And some have said hes really hit the weights this offseason. Hes difficult to block because his burst and hand strength . Agilty and quick feet.

Barnett is the best defensive player in the country when hes on.

Darrell Taylor and Kyle Phillips would start at most any other SEC school at DE. They are the 2nd wave. The one that crushes you after being beaten all game...

Consistency is key.

Our offense will be so early on.

I fixed the thread title. The way you posted, it read like a game had been scheduled between Tennessee and Clemson next season. Hence the disappointment.

Speaking for myself, I was just picking on you. It's like when someone starts a thread with only a players name. I'd love to see a game against Clemson. Need to beat the tar out of them and maybe some of those recruits will regret their decision to troll us the way they have.

I don't know who you are, but you're very quick witted when you want to be.

Also I appreciate your contribution to the board.

I think we beat the Gators this year, but you all will finish with 10 wins and have playoff hype come 2017.

Bowl games where tie-ins would allow TN and Clemson to meet at the end of 2016 (i.e. SEC vs ACC bowls):

If both were in the College Football Playoffs:

Chick-Fil-A Bowl (semifinal)

FBS Championship game in Tampa

(Fiesta Bowl semifinal would be very unlikely do to team locations)



New Year's 6:

Orange Bowl (if UT doesn't win SEC Championship but is ranked high enough that the Orange Bowl would choose to select the Vols...meaning TN would not be in the playoffs but also be ranked higher than a non-playoff Notre Dame and the first available, non-conference-champion Big 10 team.)(So UT would have to either have a season where (1) it didn't win the SEC, the SEC champ didn't make the playoffs, and UT was the second-highest ranked SEC team or (2) UT didn't win the SEC, the SEC winner did make the playoffs, and UT was the third highest ranked SEC team so that another team played in the Sugar Bowl...all while still being higher ranked than Notre Dame and the 2nd or 3rd highest ranked Big 10 team).

(While Cotton Bowl is theoretically possible for this matchup, its distance from both makes a matchup's chances very slim...and if I'm correct, it has to pick the highest ranked Group of 5 team this year.)




Regular bowls:

Citrus Bowl (if Orange Bowl is not in playoffs and selects a Big 10 team as opponent for ACC team)





Pool of 6 bowls:

Gator Bowl (if select ACC team over Big 10 team...have to do 3 from each over 6 years and have already picked 2 Big 10 teams)

Music City Bowl (if select ACC team over Big 10 team...have to do 3 from each over 6 years and have already picked 2 ACC teams)

Belk Bowl

Independence Bowl

We can't play Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.

Per the Sugar Bowl's current contract, when the Sugar Bowl is not a CFP semifinal game - like this year - the game has to be an SEC team vs a Big 12 team.

If the champion from either conferences are part of the CFP, then the bowl game is to take the next highest ranked team in that conference based on the CFP rankings...so even if both the SEC champion and the Big 12 champion make the playoffs, the bowl game just reverts to the next-highest ranked SEC and Big 12 team.
