If UT loses to UF......

If UT loses to UF, one bad football team lost to a slightly less bad football team.

You may very well see another 0-8 SEC season.

I'm already on record as saying UT wont win a road SEC game this year. After seeing UF get thumped by Kentucky on their own field, I see one of two possibilities...

We beat UF and UK and go on to have a nice 7 win season or we lose to both of them and Vandy too and go 0-8 in the SEC again.

I think UF, UK and VU are our only viable SEC wins this year. If UF beats us, watch out.
Everyone has known since the WVU game that the Florida game will likely be a good determination if the program is improving over last year. Why not wait until after this game before projecting the rest of the season.

Step off the ledge and relax. It's a long season and we are only two games in. Check back in come mid October and we should know much more about the Vols and their remaining opponents.

It's a real shame that you can take the best 2 deep players collectively from UF and UT, and still wouldn't be sniffing Bama or UGA. Bring back Mike Shula and Jim Donnan.

Agree. It wasn’t long ago UF was beating UGA badly in back-to-back years with Treon Harris at QB. A 5’9” inch qb with below-average passing skills and average running skills. Crazy how good UGA has gotten in just 2-3 years.

Yes it is. It's about the next decade. WE HAVE TO BEAT THEM TO KEEP THEM DOWN. We lose to them at home when we are both in transition it will affect everything. We can steal recruits from the hottest state for talent that there is if we can thump them. I say we onside kick it, fake punt it, 4 down territory across the 50. Throw deep all day long. Anything to smoke them. It means everything!

Don’t get me wrong. I hate them more than anything and I agree that we should pull out all of stops to win, but if we lose it doesn’t mean we drop the rest of the SEC games and miss a bowl.

I think I speak for most of VN when I say i could care less how bad either team is a win against y'all is a big win.

My thoughts on the whole "getting better" thing are nuanced. I think Pruitt can pour all kinds of top shelf knowledge into these guys and they can get better, I just dont see much of the improvement showing up in the win column. I think we get a few "moral victories" this year. And that's fine. Florida fans will see the same this year. First year head coaches in the SEC rarely if ever do well and first time head coaches, well, we will see.

I also have a feeling that many of these players, while once highly touted players with upside potential were utterly and completely ruined by Butch Jones' poisonous rhetoric and coaching style. I personally feel like its a bit much to ask CJP to "undo" what Lyle did when it comes to the juniors and seniors on this current team. I think this team could see vast improvement once most/all of Butch Jones players have been cycled out. At least that's my current hope.

Would you care to expound in detail on how a coach "ruins" an athlete forever and ever? Beyond all repair?

If a kid can jump high, run fast, throw far and hit hard in high school he isnt going to have that coached out of him. Maybe he falls behind because the S&C program isnt as good as others or maybe the technique being taught isnt the greatest but another coach can easily fix that.

Just finished highlights of 2016 FL game. Trying to figure out how we went from that team to last year's debacle and the doom and gloom of this year. Is it that we don't have Josh Dobbs or Derrick Barnett? Heck Jumper, TK Jr, even had a good game. Is the current OL that much worse than 2016?

Wow, that’s a bleak outlook. Glad Bama didn’t have that attitude with LSU a few years back when LSU beat them and then Bama went in to win the title.

The past 10 years have been brutal for Tennessee and fans have a right to be skeptical of a win over Florida because they have been let down so many times before. But this is a new coaching era and Pruitt understands the significance of beating Florida in Neyland in a night game. If UT wins that game (I think they will) then Pruitt will have earned some equity with the fan base. It will be a process and like anyone else, I do not want to wait years for UT to be relevant, but beating the Gators would be a nice launching point.....

Even given the down state of UF now, a definitive win over them at home in a primetime night game would be YUGE for our confidence and set CJPs program up on the right track for success. This is a golden opportunity to start righting the wrongs of the last several coaching staffs...

Lack of work ethic is hard to re-teach. Alabama didnt get good again in Saban's first year. He had to cycle out a bunch of kids and get HIS players in the program. Also, these players only know Butch's crazy schemes and having to unlearn all that and re-learn it is an incredible task that wont produce very good results. Then throw on top of that everyone being "soft". that's not just a S&C problem, its a mental problem.

You have a lot of players on the team that were invested in Butch's program and are more than likely now thinking "I need to do the absolute minumum to get out of here and to a possible NFL career because they know this ship isnt going to get turned around to championship ball in 1 or 2 years. Butch had a lot of "all about me" players and now that we are in full rebuild mode, they know there isnt gonna be a championship like I'm sure Butch told them there might be when he recruited them.

Its very difficult for any coach to fight that mess and things really arent going to get appreciably better until those juniors and seniors are gone from the team.

Agree 100%. Its a big game for UT, but not in the sense of setting us up for a 10 win season or anything, just a confidense boost before we run the gauntlet which could absolutely kill their spirit.

Because by then there will be 10 trillion threads on the subject and I wanted to get out ahead of it :)
