You may very well see another 0-8 SEC season.
I'm already on record as saying UT wont win a road SEC game this year. After seeing UF get thumped by Kentucky on their own field, I see one of two possibilities...
We beat UF and UK and go on to have a nice 7 win season or we lose to both of them and Vandy too and go 0-8 in the SEC again.
I think UF, UK and VU are our only viable SEC wins this year. If UF beats us, watch out.
Monumental? No one aside from you will describe a game between two terms that won a combined 8 games last year that way.The point, my friend is that if you dont beat UF and then run the gauntlet, you're going into November having won two cupcake games and nothing else.
That will take a HUUUUUUGE toll on a bunch of true frosh players. All the sudden UK and Mizzou will look like Alabama to these kids.
If you dont think this UF game is monumental, you're kidding yourself. This team isnt going to just magically turn and run the table in november without any significant wins under its belt. You dont have to be Nostradamus to see that.
Educated guess which leads to a conclusion, but I'm not going to argue semantics. What I find ridiculous is how you find the whole season or to be more specific, going winless in SEC hinging on one potential loss. I'm not trying to play that "card" but it's also ridiculous to ignore how college football is unpredictable. Teams can change from week to week and we've seen that time and time again in college football. Like I said, if that's the way you feel, so be it. I disagree.
Your statement is equivalent to the old, "If your not first, your last!" comment. There are lots of options somewhere in the middle. We could beat Florida and lose all other SEC games or vice versa. We could also lose to Florida and win 1 or more SEC game later. It's not an all or nothing deal.ok. explain?
It was expected though if you remember. Many, self included, didn't think the predictions of a cover by WVU would be accurate.
Turns out they were.

Look, every TN fan knows it's important. Both fan bases want their new coach to get this rivalry of to a good start. Both coaches want to win the game for all the obvious reasons.
But neither team is going on to great things with a win.
It doesn't require any sensationalism added.
What pre season predictions had us being better than 6-6 or 7-5 (at best)?Yeah, but my point is that it went from speculation to a reality. That's a big deal. All of a sudden everyone's 7-5 season went to "we're lucky if we make a bowl" in an instant (and for good reason). There's a big reason why preseason predictions are bunk and thats because no games have been played. But after week one, you can get much better at it.
As stated, we all know it's important. It's not monumental in the sense that if UT wins they compete for a title or anything. Its monumental because I believe our final record can swing by as many a 3-4 games based on how they look and if they beat UF. The difference between a 3 win season and a 7 win season. That's pretty monumental for THIS team.

Nothing you've presented here today is new or enlightened, or otherwise noteworthy, other than it seems you've arrived at these conclusions today.
Oh. Ok.No, I predicted a 5 win season from the beginning. But my prediction hinged on beating UF in Knoxville. If you can find it, I predicted we beat UF and lose to Vandy (because I predicted UT wont win a road game in the SEC). I got railed for it of course.
What's new with this thread is that my prediction goes drastically down (to a 3 win season) if we dont beat UF.
THATs the point of my thread.
Teams get better or worse during the season? Auburn beat UGA and Bama and ended up with four losses. One game never dictates a season.

But, saying UT will win games because of "unpredictability" and "you never know what can happen" is not a prediction at all. You cant say you disagree unless you have a basis on which to refute my idea. Just simply saying "anything can happen" is not a thing. Its more of a cop out. No disrespect meant, of course.
Oregon lost in embarrassing fashion to Boise State at the very beginning of the Chip Kelly era. End of that season, no one wanted a piece of them. Happens every year after experts like you spout this one game defines a season wisdom. Miami will have 10 wins by the end of the year. Florida spanked a cupcake and got praise. Got smacked by another SEC team and the rats jumped off that ship. No one will KNOW what they really are win or lose against us...and vice versa. Two seasons ago, we beat Florida and UGA and we lose to SC and Vandy...so after FIVE games what book did you write?Yeah and I'm guessing the U never "gets better" now that we know what they are like on the field. Maybe they do, probably not.
Predicting what a team will or wont do BEFORE a game is played is much harder to do then predicting what they will do once you see them on the field once or twice.
