If UT loses to UF......

no. I've never stopped watching the Vols since 1991. Never missed a home game while at school there. I have to give my loyalty at least some of the credit for my drinking problem.

At least we have the drinking and refusal to stop watching games in common. If we get to 6 wins this year, I’ll buy you a celebratory drink.

I predict we will get better each week. I also have no idea how good we are aside from the clear fact of that we are worse than WVU and better than ETSU.

My thoughts on the whole "getting better" thing are nuanced. I think Pruitt can pour all kinds of top shelf knowledge into these guys and they can get better, I just dont see much of the improvement showing up in the win column. I think we get a few "moral victories" this year. And that's fine. Florida fans will see the same this year. First year head coaches in the SEC rarely if ever do well and first time head coaches, well, we will see.

I also have a feeling that many of these players, while once highly touted players with upside potential were utterly and completely ruined by Butch Jones' poisonous rhetoric and coaching style. I personally feel like its a bit much to ask CJP to "undo" what Lyle did when it comes to the juniors and seniors on this current team. I think this team could see vast improvement once most/all of Butch Jones players have been cycled out. At least that's my current hope.

You may very well see another 0-8 SEC season.

I'm already on record as saying UT wont win a road SEC game this year. After seeing UF get thumped by Kentucky on their own field, I see one of two possibilities...

We beat UF and UK and go on to have a nice 7 win season or we lose to both of them and Vandy too and go 0-8 in the SEC again.

I think UF, UK and VU are our only viable SEC wins this year. If UF beats us, watch out.
We can beat sc. Overrated and mediocre imo.

Like the last several years, sadly, the UF - UT game will be between marginal-to-bad football teams. The winner really has nothing to feel all that great about while the loser is reassured of their complete suckiness.

While this is true, I would still get great satisfaction out of beating the s out of you guys.

That's a pretty ridiculous conclusion OP but if that's how you feel, so be it. I personally disagree, I don't see a loss to the gators equating to going 0-8 in the SEC. Unless of course that game counts as 8.

I understand, everyone does. We’re getting payback for dominating things in the 90’s and mid 00’s.

Imagine if Bama ever sucks again, and how satisfying everyone will feel in beating the hell out of them.

I long for those few years when beating Bama was almost a foregone conclusion. Just as frustrating as losing to you guys when you were dominant is losing to you guys since you have sucked. Expecting the worst when it was looking good.

There are a handful of teams in the SEC that are about the same and could beat the others on any given day. To say that losing to one of them means we won't win any of the others is a dumb thing to say.

It wasnt a conclusion so much as an educated guess that I think has more than a far shot at being true. I think its at least fair to say that Dan Mullen (at this point until proven otherwise) is a better and proven coach in the SEC and he is coaching a consistently better football program and with consistently better talent and UK just beat them on THEIR field. So if UT gets beaten on its own field by a team that lost at home to UK, why is it so far fetched to believe they cant do the same to UT? and if UK beats us, its a better than fair bet to believe we lose to USCjr at their place and Mizzou with a great QB (very much like WVU).

so then, who do we logically beat if we lose to UF? Vandy?

I mean, you can always play the "anything can happen, lets just let them play" card, but thats a weak card to play on a message board dont you think?

there are lots of mediocre teams in the SEC, but I think its more than fair to look at the situation and weigh them out. Outside of UK, UF and VU and maybe UM, I dont see any other SEC games that approach a 50/50 tossup. and if they lose to UF at home after UF lost to UK, I think people will have to look at it differently without being labeled completely biased.

UT can lose to Florida, go 2-6, and still have a good chance to go 6-6. Mizzou defense is weak and we may get into a shootout which I like our chances. KY didn’t impress me. They are still all over the place and unaware in tight situations. Almost gave the game to Florida again this year.

Felipe Franks will rue the day he ever stepped in Knox County.

I know you’re jesting but in my opinion, Franks has NOT been UF’s issue. To my surprise, the defense is pathetic, followed by an o-line that can’t run block. Franks looks like a totally different dude, as do his stats.

An O-line is supposed to block? Who knew.

I thought he actually did play pretty well the other night, he started pressing toward the end, but who wouldn't?

OK, fair enough. So you're prediction then is that we are somewhere between the 4th and 14th best team in the SEC?

I would agree, I wouldn't be shocked if we beat UF,UK, VU, UM or USCjr. I sure wouldnt be one of those dopes that calls one of those games a "signature win", like some said when Butch beat USCjr for the first time. Like I said, if we beat UF I think theres a lot of possibility ahead (when I say lots, I mean 7 wins at most). But that's way better than 4 wins.
How'd we get to the topic of signature wins, when were staring 0-8 I'm the face again?

On the defense... You think getting ce ce back makes a big impact?

I’d love to win that game but I don’t think that it’s so or die. It’s a long season and a lot of things could happen. Injuries could deplete some teams, some teams get worse, some teams get better...you never know.
