IMO this season is already less successful than last year, regardless of what happens in the bowl game. Winning the East was a nice bonus, and one that certainly looked improbable back in October, but still: 100-37. Plus we got drilled by 6-6 Cal and couldn't finish off an LSU team that was severely depleted by injuries. Last year, we had talking heads on TV calling us "the best one-loss team in the country" as late as the South Carolina game. There hasn't exactly been much positive buzz about our team this year from the opening kickoff in Berkeley.
I'm enormously proud of the heart our team showed this season; after Alabama, I fully expected them to fold up like we did in 2005. I was very wrong. But all that heart can't ultimately make up for the fact that we're just not very good.
