IMO this season is already less successful than last year, regardless of what happens in the bowl game. Winning the East was a nice bonus, and one that certainly looked improbable back in October, but still: 100-37. Plus we got drilled by 6-6 Cal and couldn't finish off an LSU team that was severely depleted by injuries. Last year, we had talking heads on TV calling us "the best one-loss team in the country" as late as the South Carolina game. There hasn't exactly been much positive buzz about our team this year from the opening kickoff in Berkeley.

I'm enormously proud of the heart our team showed this season; after Alabama, I fully expected them to fold up like we did in 2005. I was very wrong. But all that heart can't ultimately make up for the fact that we're just not very good.
This is very true. Makes you wonder about the way we evaluate talent. Were not that good and thats the bottom line. I think all of these big name coaches now in the sec has depleted our talent base. Richt has georgia all but sown up every year. Spurrier gets to cherry pick talent out of south carolina. Lsu has les (brain)miles locking up loserana. The picking's around the south are slim for us now. It also just gets harder every year that we continue to do nothing. I wonder what phil tells these kids anymore. I won a title back in 98. Most of these kids were in elementary school when that happened.

I think the only positive this season compared to last is we have more young talent to look forward to with Berry, Jones, Creer, and Taylor. As far as the season as a whole though no different or may be even less than last year due to the two blow outs to Bama and UF.
We were 3 plays away from losing against USC, Vandy, and Ky-Jelly. A fumble recovery that picked up a first down and put us in field goal range, a field goal that came up just short, and a blocked field goal...

Losing 5 games is not a successful season compared to any year---it's a total embarrassment.

Getting to the SEC Championship in what is revered as the toughest football conference in america is success. 4 & 5 losses still suck, but hey ND lost 9

And now that we lost, they are in the Sugar Bowl and we are playing some garbage Big 10 team.

The last two season's have both sucked imo. We havent won anything of significance in either year, or this decade for that matter.
