The University still can not pay the players, correct? So this is not a UT issue. Other than the Haslams how much big money donors do we have? Maybe Malibu, Mastercraft, Sea ray, Scripps, Hackney, Teamhealth, and some of the other larger businesses can chip in but are they willing to give millions every year? Would you be more willing to buy a Mastercraft if you saw Hooker advertising for it?
I doubt Pruitt & Co were cheating off their own funds. Seems like for the business community an opportunity for some ROI off the field makes more financial sense than funding bagmen.
And yes, I get there is a bit of risk involved with public deals considering a kid representing your business does something stupid. However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping NIL’s at other programs.
I see the point, but it is also not different than a school throwing a ton of money at a coach and/or a pro team. They do it in hope that it pays off. I think it will still happen, and bust will happen each year as well, it hasn't stopped the other two examples. LOLBusinesses are going to think twice about giving out big deals to these kids after seeing big names like Spencer Rattler flop on the field this year. They’re not allowed to condition deals on a player’s performance or enrollment by NCAA rules. So if the kid busts and they don’t see the ROI they hoped for, they’re SOL.

The biggest pile of money out there with some potential ability to legally add some deals is the Dish Network/Sling TV guy. You don't have to use many fingers to count the number of commercials that play all over TV that have NOT included a clip with UT athletics footage. Not sure if he is motivated to do so or not, but he could pay guys for use of their image I WOULD THINK.
Not sure of FEDX kingpinns sports heritage. Could feature several schools if desired,
Don't know the rules, but some small deals seem practical for players EVERYWHERE from appearances at car lots. Ken Rice hired guys before some rules were put in place 50 years ago.
Cracker Barrel? Little Debbie? Dollywood? All kinds of other Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg attractions always trying to get an edge. I am sure there are others out there that could get involved with lower end deals where pictures or appearances have value. Will be interesting to follow the growth of this whole NIL deal.
Places like Tejas A$M have "programs" in place that allows for business relationships to be built privately (via alumni mostly). In other words... most other big time schools have agents (alumni/interested business owners) that will reach out to prospective players to discuss deals available, etc. The "rule" states that the AD of each university cannot be the mediator between the athlete and the sponsor. I HOPE that UT is doing the same. But I doubt it.
I am sure if you visit a friend in Texas, and watched those same channels from their TV? You will see Longhorns or Aggies. What you may have not noticed while watching the cable channels lately? They are starting to include a few local ads from your area from time to time. Rusty Wallace's car dealerships are one I have noticed doing that. Not just on your local CBS, NBS, ABC or Fox channels. The Vols commercials you are seeing are not played nation wide. Just in our area.
Don’t know if they are regionally adjusted or not, but it was still UT on Mobile TV on Thanksgiving day. He could still elect to use current players and pay them if so since he is from Oak Ridge.
You are probably correct but I’m pretty sure that when my wife and I traveled out west this summer we saw Dish/Sling commercials several times and they always had a shot of the Vols in action. Maybe I just dreamed that after hitting the evening cocktails too hard. We were out there just over three weeks primarily in Colorado, Utah and Arizona. Again maybe I just dreamed that.Uh huh. Of course it is. And that is because just about everything has become regionally adjusted. As a friend of mine I used to work with used to say, "We have the technology!"
