If the Vols don't get a #1 seed...

“All we had to do was to win out”. Man that’s some rocket science there. Win out in this conference? Are you kidding?

And beating a great Auburn team on a neutral floor should tell you how good they are. The NCAA tournament is all about matchups and if you can get hot for 6 games. Whoever does that usually is in the running to win. All it takes is one cold shooting game to get knocked out. The good news is that UT has a defense that will keep them in any game even if they aren’t shooting well.
Back in January if you’d have told me that we would have 6 losses right now and would be playing today having just beat Auburn I’d have said we were a lock for a 1 seed. I didn’t expect Florida to win at Auburn and Bama. I also didn’t expect Houston to win as many games. I thought someone else would get them so they’d lose 3 or so games in the Big 12. Our close losses at Vandy and Ole Miss might end up biting us. Both games were right there and we just didn’t quite get it done. Auburn too for that matter. We’re still, at worst, the 5th best team. Helluva year!

They’ve made to the S16 in each of the last five tournaments with one E8 and a F4. That doesn’t sound like a team that chokes in the tournament.
To be fair, you have to judge against their seeds. If they were a 1 seed in all 5 and that’s the result then they did underperform. I didn’t look it up so I have no idea, just saying you have to put it in perspective.

I want them to win today to get a SEC tournament title, but even if they beat Florida, I hope the committee keeps them a #2. Flipping us and Florida would land them in San Francisco for sweet 16 as the #1 since it's the only one available. Auburn, Duke and Houston have the other 3 locked down. For the Vol fan base, the trip to Indy would be much better than San Francisco.
Those 1,000 fans that would go to one but not the other aren’t enough to justify a 2 over a 1. Last year showed how much that matters.

This. The “proximity to home” narrative needs to die. It doesn’t matter. Our fanbase does not travel for basketball. They just don’t. You want the easier matchups and better seed over proximity.

We had a 1 seed and all we had to do was to win out to keep it. I sort of feel the same way about this basketball team as I did about the football team. Not really sure how good they are? Seedings may not really matter if they keep playing slip up games.
Slip up games?!

Well, we never actually had it. We were 5th in the top 16 reveal. But winning at Ole Miss maybe would have gotten it. You can’t call 27-6 in the toughest conference “slip up” games. Our resume is literally top 5 in the country.

The winner today will be a 1 seed. The SEC, according to all, is the greatest conference ever. How could the tournament champion of the greatest conference of all mankind not be a number one seed.

All good points. But I’ve seen them get, let’s just say, good benefits over the years. I’m mainly talking about seeding and location of games but I don’t discount refereeing either. Coach K had a way of getting their attention.
So them playing in Raleigh as a #1 seed is a gift from the committee and isn’t a result of the season they’ve had? OK.

Also, the refs made UCF miss the tip-in at the buzzer in the 2019 2nd round. If you watch closely you can see the lead official goal tend the shot.

Coach K retired three years ago, if you didn’t know.

If Tennessee wins this tournament, a tournament applauded as the greatest of all time, and is seeded 2, then may hellfire reign on all those in the path of the VOLS
