If the Vols don't get a #1 seed...

We had a 1 seed and all we had to do was to win out to keep it. I sort of feel the same way about this basketball team as I did about the football team. Not really sure how good they are? Seedings may not really matter if they keep playing slip up games.
We have won 10 out of 12 including several quad 1 games. It is ok to lose a quad 1 road game at the end of game.

Yes…

But being a 1 seed also means you are very good. Which, I think it’s more that.
In some calculations I've seen that take into account pathways based on seeding and likely outcomes, iirc being a #1 seed over a #2 seed gives you something like a 5 % better chance of making it to a final 4.
5 % is 5 %. Every little bit helps. I want that number 1 seed. lol

Tend to agree. You know why that’s so frustrating. After we beat Bama, we were a #1 seed. Clearly.

We then lose on the road in the final seconds to a good Ole Miss team. We recover by beating Auburn and Florida (hypothetically) to win our conference tournament. But that’s not enough to erase a final seconds loss on the road to Ole Miss?? That’s crazy to me.

I still don’t understand how Alabama went ahead of us. We beat them, lose by 2 at Ole Miss but they lost at home to UF. They then beat Auburn.

But is beating Auburn as impressive now? They’ve lost 3 of 4 and Ole Miss gave them a game.

Ridiculous that UF/Alabama was for the #1

You’re basing this on what a talking head like Joe Lunardi said and not anything factual. Outside of the committee’s early reveal on Feb. 15, where Alabama was #2 and we were #5 overall, nobody knows where we’ve stood with the committee since then. It’s all conjecture.

And get a #2 seed(I suspect it would be the highest or 2nd highest #2) then whose region do you want of the #1 seeds? Guess it would likely be Duke or Houston to avoid a potential Elite 8 All-SEC matchup.
It would have to be Duke or Houston - no way around it. The bracketing principles dictate the first four teams from a conference on the first four seed lines have to be placed in different regions.

I do not want Duke. I never want Duke. I don't trust any game against them. I know Tennessee won by manhandling them two years back (when they were a 5 seed), but I have seen too much "Duke magic" -- and I think everyone knows what I mean by "Duke magic" -- over the years to ever want to see them in a bracket. No thanks.

If that's who Tennessee (the staff) would want, well then by all means, but I'm never going to feel good about it with them. Especially when they have a "superstar" who'll get superstar treatment from officials.

That's my only concern with playing Duke, not any "magic" - the lead up to the game will be the same as Purdue last year, with the Jay Bilas' of the world talking about our "thuggish" play, planting the seed in the officials heads. I have no fear of them (or anyone) in a fairly called game.

Bilas hasn't been able to contain himself the last couple of games in the SECT and will be at it again tomorrow, referring to fouls as "muggings", and harping over and over on the physicality.

If you are looking to do that, then you actually want to be a 2 seed because I don't think either of them will be a 3 seed.

So, who would you rather see.....Duke or Houston as a 1.....or St. John's or Michigan State as a 2.
The fear mongering among many on this site is unbelievable. Vols are one of the best teams in the country and we are chasing a national championship. Guess what? That means you have to beat other top teams along the way.

Yep. I asked the question the other day. What teams want to see UT in their bracket and get a rock fight every game? Not many.

He ain’t lying though. I know what “Duke magic” means and it has nothing to do with talent. (Although they are VERY talented.)
Like what - us beating them two years ago, or them losing to 11th seeded NC State last year? Or getting blown out by #1 Louisville in 2013, or losing in the Sweet 16 to Oregon in 2017? Or losing to 15-seed Lehigh in 2012, or losing to 14 seed Mercer in 2014? Inquiring minds want to know.

“All we had to do was to win out”. Man that’s some rocket science there. Win out in this conference? Are you kidding?

And beating a great Auburn team on a neutral floor should tell you how good they are. The NCAA tournament is all about matchups and if you can get hot for 6 games. Whoever does that usually is in the running to win. All it takes is one cold shooting game to get knocked out. The good news is that UT has a defense that will keep them in any game even if they aren’t shooting well.

All good points. But I’ve seen them get, let’s just say, good benefits over the years. I’m mainly talking about seeding and location of games but I don’t discount refereeing either. Coach K had a way of getting their attention.

I want them to win today to get a SEC tournament title, but even if they beat Florida, I hope the committee keeps them a #2. Flipping us and Florida would land them in San Francisco for sweet 16 as the #1 since it's the only one available. Auburn, Duke and Houston have the other 3 locked down. For the Vol fan base, the trip to Indy would be much better than San Francisco.

This is the difference between being a 1 or 2 seed for people who say it doesn’t matter.

Those 5 2 seeds were probably mis-seeded by the committee and should have been 1 seeds but politics played into it. How many 2 seeds were in the final 2 over those years I wonder. Seeding is an art not a fact. Whatever looks good and can sell tickets. Facts, stats and other data are contributing factors but it is more of a piece of artwork that will sell with little explanation needed.

I think it’s closer to double the likelihood a 1 makes a FF vs. 2.
