No your right that team would probably scare half this team into giving up football but alot of teams in that era were ruff and tough kinda like Miami was until they got to cocky and thought the Vols didnt belong on the field with themNo offense, but has this team shown anything close to the moxy, physicality and mental toughness of that team? Anything at all?
Man, we may have been the underdog in that one nationally. I think the spread was -7. But 99 percent of Tennessee fans loved our chances of beating them. That team was the real deal. It really wasn’t that surprising to Vol fans. If we had a playoff in 85 I think the Vols would have been National Champs. If we not tied UCLA or Georgia Tech we would have probably won it all anyway. We tied Tech after losing Robinson in bama game the week before. After that game Dickey got comfortable at quarterback and we ran out the table after that. Fuad saved us at the Tech game kicking a 60 yard field goal to end the game. We would go 10-1-2 as the only loss was 17-10 to a Florida team in Gainesville that was on probation and not allowed on TV.Dont know the Sugar Vols win over Miami was a pretty big upset I think
That was the loudest I ever heard the stadium in 1982 at the Bama game. It only seated 91,249 at the time, and I have had season tickets through the 110,000 people games, but I thought Neyland my fall in 1982. Everyone at the Worlds Fair ran to the end of the fair where the stadium was. It was awesome.1982 Bama is it for me. NOBODY expected to beat #2 Alabama with a 2-2-1 Tennessee team.
