If Tennessee loses to USC,(something that hasn’t happened since 1962-64)

Wow. Yet another factoid that hurts to see. This program deserves so much better. I hate this situation. My kids have never seen the Vols play at a high level. When I was going to football games as a kid in the 70s and 80s, it was awesome. When I was in college at UT in the mid to late 90s things were fantastic. It hurts to take a step back and see things have slipped so far down.

How do we get better? How do we start to rebuild the program and the national perception of the program?

I know people want to fire Dooley. But how long would it take a new coach to rebuild in this league?

Man, UT needs to win today. Again, this is the best time in recent memory to be outside the country. If UT wins, you will be able to hear Vol fans all over the world cheering. I will be doing my part.

GO VOLS!!! Choke the Cocks!!!

I was a freshman in high school in 62 and listened to every game each week on the radio. Yes we lost but i still was a fan and could not wait for each Saturdays game i could not even tell you our record those three years, but I never missed listening.
Ah yes, I was a youngster too. These were the bridge years-between single wing and the "modern" I formation.

I used to listen to John Ward back during years when we sucked (1980 and 1988 for example). It's easier to stomach bad play when you can't see to cause, particularly with a great play by play guy. A fat girl can sound hot on the phone.

When you can see the issues and they are not addressed it causes concern.

It's pretty clear we have a db talent issue (well for the guys we're playing maybe not with Bonner and Gray but that's another topic). Leaving the DBs on an island when they aren't talented enough to cover one on one is just plain stupid (it's not a knock on the players it's just reality). You roll a safety and give him help. This isn't an isolated play. This is a continuous issue.

The same occurs on the other side of the ball. When you can successfully run up the gut, keep running until they stop you. Also, when your best player gets 4 or 5 touches it's a scheme issue. When your QB is having accurancy and control issues there are such things as screens, hot passes, swing passes that exist. Sorry, end rant.

We must be watching different games. I see a team trying to play a week ass zone, and not knowing where their zone is. This is a coaching issue NOT a talent issue. A good coach could make this D I don't know, not the worst defense in UT history.

Everything underlined I agree with, except "hot passes" that is a read ie. if the corner blitzes that receiver becomes the "hot route", a read that both the QB, and WR MUST make. I would insert quick slants in place of "hot passes", however I'm not sure Bray has the timing down for these throws. Again coaching issues.

Has anyone seen Gruden in K-town yet? :eek:k:

I don't think we are completely disagreeing. They have been lost in zone but also have lost one on one battles in man with no over the top help consistently as well.
