If Riley Leaves Ok

This is literally about a 1st year coach at UT potentially leaving for his "dream job" after having a surprising amount of success in his first year and making UT fans excited for the future, particularly on offense.

Now where have I seen this plot before. There is absolutely some "rent free" discussion of Kiffin but this thread is one of the places it is absolutely warranted.
Oklahoma isn’t his dream job though. Getting scapegoated by a university will do that to you. Arguably for Heupel, Tennessee is a much better situation since his AD has been his AD for a while; I’m sure there’s some measure of trust there.

Heupel could very well go to OU if Riley leaves, but he’s not leaving unless it’s for the NFL. Heupel was fired by Stoops in favor of his brother, and Castiglione went along with it. He’s still AD, so if he wanted to make amends, and hire Heupel as HC, I’m sure Heupel would go— he won an NC there, and is a mid-Westerner, that’s where his heart is. And don’t kid yourself, OU is a top-5 all time program— 6 or 7 legit NC’s. And he probably didn’t like hearing VN calling him the Hobbit! So I would say he is as good as gone!
How many people leave a good job with a boss they like and trust to go back to a job with a boss that fired them?

What does CJH do? I think he sees he's building something and the amount of money the unveristy is pouring in if he stays. As I said before and ate my crow I want him to stay. We have something special working here let's keep it going, We will see and it might take 3 years but our program will be leaps and bonds better than it is now. Recruiting will be a key but also the portal and JUCO is also a way to go but recruiting is your life blood even if they can't come in and help out in short term but long term is where we are aiming.

So my grandfather is a big OU booster, said they will never hire CJH because of his relationship with certain boosters that he made mad during his time here as a coach. He does not know what happened exactly, but they said it was a big difference in a opinion.

Wasn't that also kinda the case with Mullen? I thought he and his wife had a bit of a bitter taste in their mouths from his stint there as OC and many thought he'd never take the Florida job. I can't find anything about it as everything Mullen talks about how he's a terrible coach at Florida. Maybe it's the same thing all over again what with a toxic environment and everyone failing there after Urban Meyer. Not that we're any different, mind you.

I should also note that I absolutely agree with you. I don't think Hype will leave even if courted not because we're so much better than OU but because of his relationship with the current AD and his seeming positives about the university as a whole.

Scott Stricklin, Florida's AD, was Mullen's boss at Mississippi State. He was at MSU from 08-16. Jeremy Foley was the UF AD while Mullen was there previously. He retired in 2016

Kinda feeds into it then. Mullen had to be pulled to Florida because of familiarity with the AD. Had Foley been there at Florida, I doubt Mullen takes job.

Hype might leave for OU in the future, but I doubt he accepts an offer from his version of Foley.

Different situation entirely. Stricklin was Miss States AD while Mullen was there.

Kiffin lives rent free in many TN Vol fans heads. Kiffin could tweet that he likes fried turkey as opposed to oven baked and TN fans would talk about it.
People need to stop drying out their oven baked turkey. A good brine and strategic use of aluminum foil can keep it succulent. I’ll never eat fried turkey again now that Kiffin likes it!

Really, all y’all can talk about coaches wanting to build something, loving their environment, loyalty, historic program success, etc, but for 95% of the decisions, it’s about money. If someone is making 4 mil and another job offers them 7, that’s a $15 mil difference over 5 years. It’s easy for us to think we’d be happy with $xx mil, but when you’re there and somebody offers 2x $xx, everyone is strongly considering it. I’m not saying OU is offering Hype the job, but ignoring the money aspect in these conversations is ignoring a huge factor.

From what I have read LSU is about the same player for Arch as Ole Miss if they can get a good coach. I dont think Kiffin would wage his future on maybe landing a kid regardless of his name and pedigree. So if the deal is right Lane would certainly take the LSU job where you rarely have to leave the state to build a roster full of future NFL talent. As for Lincoln Riley I dont know that he would leave Oklahoma for LSU he has been the apple of some NFL owners eyes. So not sure thats where he would go to another college job regardless of prestige of the school.
I agree that if Riley left Oklahoma it would be for the NFL

If Oklahoma is paying attention, they'd be stupid to not be interested in Josh Heupel. What he's done at Tennessee this year can only be done with great coaching. Those saying Oklahoma wouldn't be interested are kidding themselves. Those saying Heupel wouldn't leave if Oklahoma offered are also kidding themselves. Yes, he's in a great position right now at Tennessee and I wouldn't expect him to leave if offered a comparable package, but if Oklahoma offers him a $2M raise and offers to pay his buyout and we don't counter.... he gone.

That’s plausible. I’ve read things that have hinted at that. Don’t think LR leaves OU unless it’s for the NFL.

Difference in opinion was Stoops needed someone to offer up as a scapegoat, they changed the offense entirely bc Stoops wanted to. OU defense wasn’t prepared for the type of offense Heupel ran. Some of their boosters like some of our fans and Fulmer are dinosaurs, their opinions of football won’t change unless it’s forced on them and is successful.

I love Heupel but our program is in good hands with Danny White. If we lose Heupel, he’ll go out and get someone like Hugh Freeze or Kendall Briles and we’ll keep rolling right along.

We can match anything they offer. Probably more considering the buyout they’d have to pay (8million) plus the upcoming buyout they’ll owe the big 12. We won’t be outgunned financially

Freeze, Kiffin, Briles... I know they aren’t popular but any of those guys would win here. I hope we retain Heup but if he goes, he goes. I hope the tempo stays tho.
I doubt anyone will touch Briles. Also you are forgetting how expensive the other two would be. Other jobs will drive their price up to the point where it’d be less expensive to give Heupel a raise.

This post has so much BS in it I can smell it thru my monitor. Heupel I believe is from N. or S. Dakota. Not sure thats mid-west. But I will give you credit Volle, you post it like you know what your talking about but you can't get past the smell.

All you people who called Heupel a bad hire, then tagged him as the Hobbit and said he looks like Chumlee are going to regret it when he hauls ass to be a Sooner!

He likely would not get a call from OU
