IF recruiting services didn't exist

Assuming they are D1 athletes... Yes, yes we do.

How many players woulds come in with that much fan support in their pocket? Also, how bad do we look after we let them go somewhere else and they turn out to be even just decent? The Berry family would be done with us, and it would leave the entire fan base bitter at the coaching staff.

But all of that aside.. Have you ever seen them play? They are the leaders if that team.. They are that team. Even at their tweener size they can obviously play SEC ball.

We get other three stars and people say "Don't look at stars". Now we have a 3 and a 4.. Along with the clear and obvious reasons they should play here, and they aren't good enough?

Sorry, I guess Michael Palardy is worth a scholly, but some solid starters (atleast) with a royal Vol pedigree are not good enough.

It's stupid

I never said the twins were not worthy of a scholarship because they are. But they are not worthy because of who they are related to. And if I were a D 1 recruit, I would be pretty insulted if the only reason I got an offer was because of a relative not because of who I am.

not the Berrys, they dont really post anything football related on their twitters

Fine. Then it would be like the old days when local sports writers interview the kids and we would get the information that way. Anyways, this hypothetical has reached it's limits I think. Let's get back to reality--
**** BAMA.

To provide loyalty now and lose......is much greater...because in the end....you win!

You take this free advise in life and you will win. Integrity and loyalty come hand in hand majority times. Search it, find it, and you will have a healthy life style.

Good luck!!!!

Except the most dishonorable and disloyal people are in positions of the most power and wealth in the world? Look at our government on both sides, look at men like Steve Jobs or Edison who stole more things than they built or designed and "changed the world." Look at historical greats like Napoleon, Attila, or Alexander.

Come on man, this is real life. Not a movie. You do what you gotta do to feed your family and make the best life you can. Because even if you follow integrity and honesty to the top, you are still crushing other people's hopes and dreams along the way.

How does this make any sense to you? Lets give scholarships to anyone who is related to a vol great?

I get your point, but we have rarely been burned by sons and/or brothers of former Vol greats.

I would take Elliot and Evan in a heartbeat, even if Rivals doesn't rate them high. I would much rather have them with the Vols and only play a back up role, than for them to go to another SEC school, and burn us.

However it goes, whether they go, I wish them well. I respect their father and brother too much not to.

Oh, and if there were no recruiting services, I would start one, and rake in the money. OOPS! Too Late.:jawdrop:

Good lesson except for one fundamental point. NOTHING about signing an ex-players relatives or friends has anything to do with integrity or loyalty. Nothing, unless EB or a host of other players were made such promises when they signed to play here.

Have you ever seen such a commitment from a previous staff?

Have you ever considered how many brothers, cousins, and relatives all the ex-Vol starters for the past 30 years their are? I know were signing a bog class, but we would be looking at 700 schollys this year alone to preserve our "integrity".

Let's get this straight, the Berry twins are a take based on their talent IMHO.

But did we just run a three year experiment where we hired a hc based on who his daddy was? How did that work out?

I would say the Berry threads would be the largest two threads on here. I read the services too but it is just their opinion.

I just don't think the apple falls far from the tree. It's still the same bloodline. IF they are 3/4 as good as Eric, we will have two special players. I just think we are underestimating them. Just have to find their natural positions. Remember, EB was ranked the no 1 CB, not safety.

Yeah well if my Aunt had balls she'd be my Uncle. These guys are not Eric Berry. They aren't even James Berry. From what I understand they have offers from UT that are commitable. If they take them and jump on board, phenomenal. It means we get two guys with great bloodlines that tie back to UT for 50+ years. But it also means we have two prospects that are great in their own rights, not just because of who they are related too. If not, that is fine. It means they found somewhere they think they can strive and succeed.

...as well as the prior coach, because of who HIS daddy was. How did that work out?

First, it isn't a cut and dry issue. If a legacy had no talent, then no one would expect an offer. It gets blurry when a legacy has some talent. That cuts out many legacies.

Second, they are legacies of an all time top Vol. EB is in the same category as our all time greats, and he still plays and can be influential in the league. IMO, that builds up some equity. But that is just one man's opinion.

Life's not fair. I agree with you in principle that it isn't fair, but that's how it is, and how it should be.

Hypothetically, if it came down to the Berry twins, and two players of equal talent, everyone in this fan base and organization would(should) take the Berry twins.

And not just for sentimental reasons. There are very real reasons why we should pick them. Is that fair to the other players? Considering that it has nothing to do with football ability, no, it isn't fair.

But that's how it goes. Is it fair that the 3 star player from Knoxville gets an offer when the 3 star guy in Arizona doesn't? No, but again, that's how it goes.

It has little to do with us banking on them becoming the next Eric, and you know that.

Just think of all the sons Travis Henry can send our way in the future. It's a stable of running backs for sure with high stars.

You said they weren't great, then turned around and said they were??? Maybe the fact your aunt has gonads has you confused? Offers from LSU, UGA, FLA, say that they are very good.
