If Peyton is to ever help by being a coach at his alma mater...now is the time

Basilio is saying Blackburn may not be hired here- I know it's Basilio but good lord that should be the first second and third choice - watch UT screw this up again and hire someone from a rival school. Does anyone know any info about this? This hire is so critical.

This thread causes me to think of Manning, Gruden hangin out talkin football. One subject leads to another till it lands on what the Vols need to be a consistent national championship team like Bama. Gruden smiles at Manning and says....''I''ll go if you will, let's do it man!'' ''The sheriff and chucky it'll be groovy!''

I've never thought Peyton was gonna come back to Tennessee as a coach and I still don't. Believe it when I see it. He's destined for much grander things IMO than being a position coach on college coaching staff. Furthermore, I hope he never does come back here to coach. He would go from being an icon and all-time Tennessee great and legend to a bum that needs to be run out of town because he called a draw on 3rd and 12. No, no thanks. Let Peyton continue to support the team and program as he currently does while being part owner of an NFL franchise or something.
Totally agree. Butch just needs to ask his advice from time to time. Or everyday

Rarely do super - star players turn out to be good coaches. This is an unrealistic thought and a waste of space on this board.

Agreed. Somebody show me the example of a college coach who was a legendary pro QB.

Silly threads are common. Silly threads are often entertaining, which is one of several reasons I'm here. Thanks for your contribution in this "unrealistic waste of space".

I agree, Peyton becoming a coach, at any level, is silly, mainly because I'm pretty sure I remember him saying he has no desire to coach. But, to say he can't or wouldn't because it rarely happens or I can't name a legend pro QB that is, or became a college coach, is also silly.

I believe if he wanted to, he would be a good one. No doubt, iN my opinion.

Sadly we live in a society with a short term memory problem. They don't remember you after a little hiatus.

Peyton right now has the most momentum, and should consider being a QB coach/offensive coordinator advisor.

It would have the most impact on recruiting NOW.

I've always believed that Peyton was going to return to the game as a coach, and he was going to be one of the best coaches in history. Nows the time. Open the checkbook and bring Peyton home.
Peyton doesn't ever need to become a coach at TN. I would hate that for him. Why risk tarnishing your legacy?

To help his program.

Why does the entrepreneur start a business if he is probably going to fail? Why ever take risks at all? Answer; That's what life is all about.

Please see Michigan under Jim Harbaugh, who are probably going to become the next dynasty. Harbaugh also played QB at Michigan. Stop being box thinking, mouth breathing fools.

Please! Who's dreaming here?

What's his motivation besides helping old UT?
Spending more time away from his family and less time with his children? Traveling all over the country to sit in high school kids living rooms with their Mom? The big paycheck that's finally going to give him financial freedom and a chance at the All American dream?

Please! You're not thinking out of the box, you're thinking outside your mind. Harbough is the son of a coach and the brother of a coach and probably does need the paycheck after his journeyman NFL career. Harbough and Manning are from different planets financially speaking. Why would Manning go into college coaching when he could be in an NFL front office or ownership group?

It will never happen. Get over it. I agree with KB. I like Peyton's legacy just the way it is.

I have always avoided this stuff with Manning.... But UT could definitely use him as OC right now. He is probably one of the few people in football that Jones would actually listen to concerning scheme.

Recruiting would blow up. Playcalling and game prep would be on an NFL level.

Yep Dobbs is tearing it up.

All of the coaching in the world cannot fix what's wrong with Dobbs. Great guy. Great leader. Great runner. Nice arm. But when it comes to anticipating and placing the ball then throwing on time.... he just can't master it.

He doesn't have the knack for "putting it where only his receiver can make a play".... or placing the ball downfield where the receiver can make a big play on a consistent basis.

Hard to say what the precise root problem is.... but after 4 years of trying.... he still hasn't overcome it.

I'll step in front of this bus. Butch Jones isn't listening to anybody. His scheme is his scheme and I'm actually OK with that IF he were a good coach, which he has proven to not be. Having Manning on his staff would be an unmitigated disaster if things started to go wrong on the field. Who do you think the fans would side with? Manning, of course. Nun uh, Butch ain't having none of that. Plus, Manning's net worth 100 times what Jones is making as head coach. Why would he ever take a submissive job in college? The whole thing is awkward and makes no sense. I'd say there's a 1000x better chance that Manning becomes the AD than becoming a staff member of Jonesome. In reality I think there is almost no chance of either happening.

Manning isn't coming to UT.

Peyton Manning is never, ever, never ever ever, never ever, NEVER EVER going to coach at UT or anywhere else. NEVER.

For the love of all the gods old and new, let it go.
