If he takes the job, we as vols fans need to support him......just like we all got on the "Lane train". Let's hope that Hamilton gives him the money to go hire a top notch staff, and an ace recruiter. He should be the best candidate for Bray as well. He's great at teaching a young quarterback. It's not going to do this program any good to write hate messages here about him. He's not my first choice, but at least.....the very least, we can be true Vols fans, and support him.

won't go to another game till they hire a real coach with a chance to win.

Guys, we need to face it. At this point in time, Cut is as good as we could do.

I disagree. I'm not completely opposed to the Cut hire, but I am opposed to rushing into it. Right now Tennessee is still a Top 10-15 job. In 5 years if we continue this mediocrity streak we've been on, it won't be. These things ebb and flow. 5-10 years ago Miami was the top job in the country with talent coming out of their ears but today they're struggling in the extremely weak ACC. It is still a sought after job, but a lot of the luster has worn off.

We need to take our time and make sure we get our guy instead of rushing into anything

What I just heard on the radio (104.5 the Zone in Nashville) was that the only sticking point in negotiations with Cutcliff is his wanting to bring his staff with him. UT still has 6 assistants left over from the former coach. Also, Cut's contract with Duke had a "no buyout clause" with the UT job. Looks like all you guys that are gloom and doomers need to get your stricnine ready!!!!!

I talked to a former player that was there from 97-2000 and he was not optimistic about the cutcliffe hire. From what I gather Cutcliffe played a lot of favorites and was not much of a recruiter.

If david is the new coach it will be just a matter of time until firehim.com is up.first he will not get the top kids to come here.second you will give phil a reason to have a say. we need to build on the future then look at the past to hire someone to have the job fill by friday.Need to start looking at the place as a top job not going into panic mood .What you lost is gone dont make it worst mike h. do the right thing because your job is on the line this time.leave the past out!!!! new blood

Was this player a starter at any point? Given that he was a Freshman and Sophomore during Cut's stay... maybe he's a little jaded towards him.

It amazing how quickly everyone forgets about his time at Ole Miss to focus on his time at Duke in the very weak ACC.

His average season at Ole Miss was 7-5! Let that sink in for a moment. He never won the SEC. He had only one 10+ win season in 6 years. Hell, he never won the SEC West outright. He finished better than 3rd ONLY ONCE!

This appears to be a TERRIBLE hire and I will want Mike Hamilton removed from his office if he hires Cutcliffe.

I have to say that bringing back Cut was by no means my "best case scenario" but I am a Vol fan, no matter who we have as a coach.

If given the choice between:
1. some young-gun HC who is going to use us as a stepping stone to another school or a pit stop on the way to the NFL.

or

2. An old-school coach who understands the Tennessee traditions, and will be committed to our program and players.

Who would you choose?

As said by Chris Walker:
“We are Tennessee today and tomorrow, next year. We are going to be Tennessee no matter what coach is going to be here.”

If Cut is our new coach, then I will welcome him back and still be just as excited for some Big Orange Football in 2010!

GO VOLS!!

I don't get it at all! its like no one remembers what Cut did Peyton,Eli,Charlie,South Carolina's RB, Coach would beg to differ with u!

Cut couldn't coach a superbowl winning qb to an sec championship.

couldn't coach another to a victory over florida.

If Cutcliffe is hired, does he bring his Duke coordinators with him to UT? I remember the controversy at Ole Miss when the school wanted him to get rid of some coaches. Who's a possibility for being in charge of recruiting? I know UT sells itself to an extent, but it takes more than that to have a high recruiting class.

If Cutcliffe is hired, will he bring Phil in as the O line coach?

If Cutcliffe is hired, does anyone think that he has that necessary FIRE in him to get the team motivated before big games? If I remember correctly, he's had some heart conditions in the past and I just remember him being kind of a boring guy.

If Cutcliffe is hired, will he be able to outscheme Meyers or Saban?

If Cutcliffe is hired, will Mike Hamilton quit or retire? He might want to think about it...

Also, does anyone know if there was any attempt to reach out to Mike Leach?
