In the FIRST HALF, WVU doesnt have a chance. The only reason WVU put up 40 was because Oklahoma State offense scores too fast. I imagine Pruitt being physical all night and running the ball down their throat keeping the Defense fresh. We cant let Grier have all day to throw we got to hit him early and often. Oklahoma State forced him into bad throws all day until the second half where the Defense started getting fatigued. I trust Pruitt because he has improved Defenses everywhere he has been and he will do the same here. I like the Vols 31-24. #BounceBackSeason

Not sure how good our defense will be but I'm thinking it should be much better than last year. Must stay healthy though.

Been saying this for a while. Of the teams that WVU played with Grier at QB, OSU has the most similar talent to UT's D.

The reason WVU scored 39 didn't have anything to do with them scoring too fast though. WVU blocked a punt for a TD and on the very next series got a pick 6 on consecutive series after OSU took a 30-10 lead. OSU stretched it back out to 43-24 when Grier threw up a 50/50 ball and the OSU DB fell down. WVU added a late score with the game pretty much out of reach and OSU playing soft.

That game was nowhere near as close as the score. It easily could have been a 50-17 game. Oh, OSU also had some unforced TO's. They gave up 4 fumbles, a pick 6, and a blocked FG for TD... enough mistakes to have lost 2 or 3 games if they had not so completely dominated WVU.

I love the Defensive scheme Okie had in the first blitz early and often and force Grier to make quick throws. Imo Pruitt will do the same he is going to rush Grier all night he is aggressive and he wont be conservative very much and send three people like most teams I have seen against Grier do and he just torches them just about every single time.

Yep. OSU also took the run away early which was key. With WVU, you kinda defend them the opposite of other teams. You take away the run game and short pass and take your chances that they can't hit too many down the field. The better your athletes... the less of that they do. In pure athleticism, UT has faster and longer DB's than OSU.

Down and distance is also a bigger deal with them than a lot of teams. As good as their O was overall, they were 111th at 33.51% 3rd down conversions... in a conference that plays really bad defense overall. If you get to 2nd and long then you can dial up pressure.

An Oklahoma fan told me if your Vols play Saturday like you did us last time you’ll beat WVU.

Okie State scores fast..Tennessee's doesnt score at all. They will be off the field just as quick most likely.

Got to get pressure. All starts up front. Blitz from everywhere and keep them guessing.

We may not quite have the horses necessary just yet, but make no mistake, Pruitt knows how to put pressure on the QB.
How much pressure we're able bring Saturday , remains to be seen, but the future is bright for UT Fielding a defense that will make Vol fans proud.

I know it's a different season..but their linemen look big and slow in that video.

Here's the difference between an SEC 3-4 front 7 and a Big 12 3-4 front 7...and I'm pretty sure CJP wants to get even bigger. It looks like UWV runs basically a nickle as their base D as instead of 4 LB's they have 3 LB's and what they call a SPUR. Anyway I was a bit surprised at the difference in size especially at the LB positions.

I think if we snap the ball with more than 15 seconds left on the game clock, we are playing with fire. As boring as it is to watch we will want to shorten this game.
Keep our defense fresh and keep the ball out of their hands.

When you bring in a team filled with most of the players from the worst team in 121 years of Tennessee football you might want to temper expectations..
So you believe it was the players... and not the mismanagement of team health by the HC... scheme by the HC... poor development... poor fundamentals and techniques... poor in game coaching... poor player management... etc?

UT has a team filled with players that were highly rated on average and pursued by other top programs. They could be the statistical anomaly... a team with that many 4/5* players who were all busts. But that seems extremely improbable. Maybe you didn't think Jones was as bad as I did. I was attacked numerous times for saying that even in his "good" or "excused" years he failed to reach the potential of the sum of the talent he had. Dobbs covered him for 3 years but last year wasn't who Jones became... it is who he is as a coach.

CBJ needed to be shown the road 30 min. after the Vandy loss in 2016. You know the game where he hid for about 30+ min. to avoid reporters. Hart needed hit upsde his head with a cast iron skillet for not doing it, IMO. Cost UT a year of development basically.

And that’s the concern imo. To get pressure, Pruitt’s gonna have to dial up some stunts and blitzes which takes personnel away from our backend and leaves them vulnerable. I don’t see any of our DTs or DEs being able to get much of any pressure on Grier, just aren’t good enough.

Pruitt will have the defense ready he has seen teams like WVU in the ACC and didnt they beat WVU when he was the DC at Bama

Was it the coaching? Of course. But to dismiss the players inability to actually play is silly. They share their fair amount of the blame for being the worst team in 121 years of football.
