If old Joe Milton shows up again—how long should Heupel leave him in the game for?

If Milton plays like old Joe Milton, at what point do you pull him if you’re Heupel?

Well, no. EVERY coach goes off practice to determine their #1 when they don't have a returning starter. It is not "wrong" to start the guy who according to ALL reports not only won the job but ran away with it... in practice. The criterion is pretty close to the same across all coaches. Bama appears to be struggling with it right now. So starting the guy who wins the job is "wrong"?

UT fans of all fans should know that some guys bloom when the lights come on and some guys fold. I hope that whatever locks Milton up and keeps him from relaxing and playing well can be resolved. But we recently saw JG work for 4 years trying to overcome the issues in his head on gameday... and he couldn't.

I cannot claim to know how long Milton's leash is or how much confidence they have in Nico at this point. Hopefully we never have to see that question answered.

The hard part for a coach is knowing if a guy will turn around given time or... if they can't. The sample size for JM seems sufficient to make a call if it comes down to it.
I think the gametime atmosphere and pressure of being "The guy" causes a huge adrenaline spike for Joe. Its hard enough learning to compensate in practice on his throws. You add Adrenaline to that on gameday and sheesh. feel sorry for the kid in that manor. Settling him down is gonna be the difference between 7-5 and 10-2. Unless Joe gets hurt or throws 4 picks a game. He is gonna be the guy for the whole season no matter how much the fans complain.

How many drops did he have? You give him back 4 of the 7-8 drops and he’s 25/33 and over 300 yards.

And I don’t want to hear the 90mph ball crap. These receivers practice on Jugs that throw the ball just as hard or harder than Joe ever could. Yes, he had some inaccurate balls but to compare him to JG is disrespectful.

Putting in a true freshman will not solve the problem. So over these stupid a* threads and fans.
Hey. We had a shot in 2024. But because of people like you and your inability to think on a grander scale—we squandered our shot. Thanks.

Barring an injury, Milton will be the QB in every game through the bowl game. Nico will get time in games that are blown away into the late 3rd or 4th quarter... but we will hear this throughout the season, play Nico.
How’s that take working for us this year???? Thanks for your service, — Alabama, Georgia, & Florida. And Ohio State

Hunt out the Butch Pruitt and Dooley guys for us too if ya can
I just made an obvious take about Nico starting as early as Florida last year.

I love the Vols. I was in Columbus. Was so proud of our fanbase and I think we should get more from our coaches. Even Gameday was giving us our credit for being there. And they hate us.

he could have used more reps last year in real SEC contests. Would have helped him some this year. Still would have had challenges with the OL and WR problems.
I think the power of a QB as a prepped leader cannot be understated. QB play can make everyone on the field better. The confidence they have in their leader can be the thing that makes a team elite. Seent it many times.

That was a brain dead take. You have absolutely nothing besides your fee-fee feels to support your assertion that Nico was ready.
I posit that if he'd been ready to start as early as FL last year, then he would have clearly posted better statistics as this season progressed than Milton did last year. He did not. He slightly underperformed Milton across the board.

How did starting early against FL work out for Peterman? I'm not saying Nico's development would have been damaged, but it's no more speculation to say that than you saying he was ready.

Hope he balls out, but honestly—it seemed Guarantano-esque. We have too much momentum as a program to allow poor QB play to regress us back to the DoojonesPru era.

Now I understand where your Milton hate thread came from recently. You have a history of starting negative threads about Milton.

What a dumbass post. Because of people like him? Let me clue you in: Neither you nor him have a damn thing to do with it
Our fanbase can get **** done. And when we’re unhappy with decisions at a team level or an administrative level—we have moved the needle.

Going thru this post there were many many many forward thinking Vol fans who saw the obvious and wanted to be proactive.

There were several complete morons who couldn’t see the obvious if it was hounding them in the head with a hammer - MadBamaHater being one I saw…j

You don't make personnel decisions. You don't scheme and game plan. You don't hire coaches.

Talking about what YOU think Heupel should have done last year is the opposite of being proactive and forward thinking.

You support the team. That's it
Geez man, you sound like we just went 7-6
