Lots of baggage and unknowns with Howland. I think I woould rather keep Martin, if we can.
That's not what I did. If you want to take it that way, go ahead, but you missed the point.
no way, CCM is our coach, get over it...howland look foolish at ucla....do not want him
And yes, I recognize that UT has no opening at the moment. Should an opening develop Howland would be interesting, but I guess it depends on which version you'd be getting? Not saying he isn't the "right" choice or the best "fit" for UT, but I do hope Hart et al look long, look hard and look deep.
Howland's downfall at UCLA?
I sure am glad that none of the people on this thread are in the athletic department. Imagine the dissarray then. With the same logic you guys are using we should be looking for a new football coach after a mediocre season. It shows you how narrow minded and irrational fans actually are. Who would want to coach for a team who's fan base acts in such a way after leading a team to the sweet sixteen. If CCM left, a better hire would not be made. I mean, people signed a petition to hire back a proven liar... Think about that.
I didnt say I would be happy if he left. I just don't worry about it. Like I said, it's entertainment to me. If I watched 75 UT games the last 3 years, how many were fun to watch? Anybody watching us would say quite often, "man UT is hard to watch".
If Martin would guarantee he would coach like the last 10, then lifetime contract him. If like most of the prior 2.5 years, I don't care to see it. Maybe others like nit and barely making it. I don't.
Serious question, can you even remotely explain why we were so flat footed in the first half of the Michigan Game.
Preparation or what...
It was stated that talent can get you to the Sweet 16, but from that point forward it all comes down to Coaching.
Looking back over previous sweet 16s it kind of fits that scenario.

Martin probably has more job security at UT than he would at Marquette. The Big East, though much weaker now because of the school defections, is still a better bb conference than the SEC. More competition--villanova, georgetown, butler, xavier, creighton, providence. Here, Martin has a pretty good chance of making the NCAA tourney most years because the SEC isn't very good. He can win a lot of SEC games without necessarily having a stout team. It's a pretty good situation.
That Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Miss State are below .500 and Missouri didn't even make the tournament. That's the run to get us in that impresses you?
Then you have Iowa who lost 7 of their last 8 games, UMass who was seeded incorrectly(?) and Mercer who was a #14 seed.
The Sweet 16 run consisted of beating a bunch of bad teams. The second we faced Florida and Michigan, ya know, good teams... lost. I'm guessing we would have lost to to Duke prior to Sweet 16 if Mercer didn't upset this.
And if you want to compare one crappy Sweet 16 run to a guy that's never made it, how about we wait until Pitino Jr. has had 6 seasons to get there. Martin was almost 0 for 6 in making the tournament but squeaked in with the easiest path in existence. Are you impressed by the teams he beat during that run? Wtf am I missing here?
Yes I can. The fact that Michigan prepared very well. Their defense pushed us out of the paint and forced us to shoot outside. Michigan was also shooting lights out the first half and our rebounds and second chance shots kept us in it the first half. If CCM was such a bad coach then how come the adjustments were made and tennessee nearly pulled an upset against a team that was shooting the ball so well. Yes we are a talented team, at the same time C. Martin has not proven to be a superstar coach but look at the superstar coaches with superstar talent who did not make it to the 16 remaining.
Serious question, if before the season started we were told that tennessee would make it to the sweet 16 this year and that the fans wanted a new coach would you not think that logic was asinine?
We did nothing defensively to disrupt Michigan's offense until the last 3:41 of the game.
