If James Franklin doesn't take the Penn State job...

Wow we've been in every game this season besides ole miss. Do you even remember what last year was like. Turning the TV off at half time because the score was so bad. This year you have to watch the game because we're relentless and stay in games even when were outplayed, outmanned, out talented. 6-6 and a bowl game is an improvement. If you don't want to acknowledge that regardless of the situation then jump the wagon and consider UT a lost cause. Why root for a team that sucks and has such a horrible coach right?

If we hired Gruden we'd be 11-0

Are you serious lol if your being sarcastic disregard my comment.

I know he's from the nfl and had some decent years but he only had barely over .500 winning percentage it's not like he's a football God. Much better coaches in the Nfl.

I am sorry, but if you can't see the improvement on this team, then, well, I guess you just can't see it. I think we beat Vandy this year, regardless of who is coaching there. The UF game still sticks in my craw, but we are much improved and that will be even more evident next year.

…would we be staring down the barrel of another 5-7 season right now?

Is the biggest improvement we've made from year 1 to year 2 simply that we play one less quality coach this season?

IF a frog had wings... it wouldn't bump his rear when it hit the ground

Who cares BEAT Vandy and lets go bowling

We have improved at every position on defense. I think the opposite can be said about offense except QB, and Worley had to get injured for us to find out about Dobbs and his Improvement.

I like Jones as a HC, but he needs to reevaluate his offensive staff IMO

Aren't we anyway? I highly doubt Vandy will win but they could.

Really? You don't think the defense is noticeably better than last year? You don't think the offense has improved since Dobbs took over? You don't think the level of team speed as a whole has increased? You genuinely believe the only reason we're (probably) going to a bowl game is because of who the opposing coaches are?

I can honestly handle this reasonable criticism, when any year ends and your team didn't perform its best your staff should be evaluated just like the players each spring. But jumping to solutions such as this guy (CBJ) isn't no good for UT. We should probably start searching for a new coach, is stupid. Nows the time to give BUTCH a timeline for expected progression. Not the time for a head coach change. Staff changes. Totally open to that.

I said 6-6 before the season started for us and I fully believe we will do that, and would achieve that even if Jimmie Frank was still there. This year's recruiting class to add depth and then one more great class and we are back. We tend to forget how low we had fallen before.CBJ, if dools was still here we end this year 2-10, at best maybe 3-9. If we do not have players like JRM and Cam Sutton from CBJ's 1st class and all the players from our great class last year we are horrible this year. Coaching is a 12 month a year job not just Saturday's and recruiting is a key part of coaching. Time will tell if CBJ is the "MAN" but he is a huge upgrade over what we had and we are getting better at every position on the field. I feel we bo bowling and win. GO BIG ORANGE.

No, we would still beat Vandy handily. Franklin is not exactly lighting it up at PSU. Did you see the game yesterday with Illinois? Not exactly a picture of textbook coaching.

So you think this team would beat a James Franklin coached Vanderbilt team? Why?

Because this year's Vanderbilt team was not going to be as good as last years no matter the coach IMO. I also don't place Franklin on a pedestal like many here do.

Our team is much improved this year as well, even if our record isn't.

Franklin is a great coach. You can't win 18 games in 2 years at freaking Vanderbilt if you are anything less.

You can if you have a decent group of upperclassmen, you play no good OOC games, and Derek Dooley is the coach of your biggest rival.

Not saying he's a bad coach or isn't good. I fail to see how he's great though (top 10 or 15 in the nation). Especially after watching him at PSU this season.

Anyone not seeing a significant difference between this season and last, particularly in the month of November, is seriously intellectually challenged. :hi:

Wow! What do you people say about your wife if she makes lumpy gravy? If you people can't see the improvement you're blind. A team that beat us 31-3 last year. They have the best D line in the conference. We don't have our starting center or our starting Mike linebacker. Yet if the ref doesn't blow the call on the first onside kick we have a chance to tie. This message board needs the suicide hot line as an advertiser.

Record is the same. All that matters.

With no context, sure. But when you look at the amount of freshmen we are playing along with a totally rebuild Oline from scratch, then 6-6 this year looks much better than a 5-7 from last year.

Franklin would still be struggling with this Vandy team. They MAY have beaten Temple, or at the least not lost nearly as embarrassingly. They probably would have beaten UMass, ODU, and Charleston Southern more convincingly.

I'll concede he'd probably have them playing better and not nearly as lost looking, but they still would be at best 6-6. They wouldn't have beaten Miss St., Georgia, or Ole Miss. My guess is you can argue that possibly there would have been a swing in the UK or SC game since those are 2 of the few close games they've had this season.
