Yes, I said it.

All you Fulmerites can say what you want. Even average QB plays wins us this game, period. It is almost guaranteed that when Crompton throws down field it is going to be an interception or incomplete pass. The last two games have shown that to be fact. The cupboard is bare at QB, and this is an indictment of Fulmer and complancency at recruiting.

Explain to me how Kiffin is supposed to come up with a game plan when an entire dynamic of modern football is taken off the plate before you even step on to the field. Kiffin gets major props for what he was able to accomplish given what he had to work with. Anybody that thinks we would be better off with Fulmer right now needs a reality check.

I'm not bashing Crompton. I'm sure he's a good guy and I wish the best for him. But he is not SEC material. End of story. That isn't his fault, it is the previous coach's fault for not seeing it. I actually feel bad for him because he has been put in an impossible position given his abilities and now he has to deal with fans that only expect average QB play out of somebody playing in the SEC. To me, this blame is placed squarely on the last staff and it starts with the head coach.

I don't believe in moral victories, no matter how good they feel. Point blank...we are sitting at 3-0 right now with a real SEC QB.

CPF would have had Crompton and Stephens rotating in and out every other series.

There would have been many more turnovers and lot's of "ball cap over the face during the game".

This game would have been over in the 2nd qtr. if his staff was still here.

im so sick of these "if fulmer was coaching" threads...who cares! fulmer is gone. kiffin is in town...

Deal with it. It's relevant. It has been obvious. Have you not been paying attention to the recruiting rankings of CPF's classes the past few years? They have not been close to being equal or even close to other prominent SEC programs, thus the results on the field.

The man slacked in recruiting the last few years. Case closed.

i didnt say he wasnt slacking, i LOVE the new coaching staffs...but it no way to consolidate a close loss by saying if we had our old coach we would have lost by a lot more...thats basically making excuses.

My apologies then. But after watching CPF and his staff squander talent over the past 8 years, I'm happy to see a new staff come make the best of a bad situation.

Go Vols.

i love it too, but id rather the "if we still had CPF" threads stop now than me get on here and 25 years after we win our 15th NC and read. "if we still had CPF" this would have never happen!

You recall Kiffin rocked the house in recruiting, right? Brought in B Brown, Oku, Jackson, etc. Why didn't he bring in a QB - not a superstar, but a serviceable option? I believe it is because after evaluating Crompton, Stephens, and Coleman he really felt he had the position covered. It's his team now, let the old staff go and look forward.

I disagree with Kiffin feeling he had the position covered. I think he just realized we already had 3 scholarships tied up in the position. Using another one on someone who would basically be a stopgap until the next year when he could get someone he actually wanted would be foolish as he would be stuck without that scholarship for 3 more years after this one.
I think Lamaison was somewhat a kneejerk reaction when he saw how little he had to work with at the position. The move has not panned out yet as Lamaison has had a bit more trouble transitioning from JUCO to the SEC than expected but with the loss of Coleman a position was freed up and as a JUCO that is still one less year the spot is tied up than if Coleman had stayed. In the meantime we have a 3rd QB if our first two go down with injury, and hopefully a quality backup for next year. After that the scholarship opens back up
