They are all Vols to me. No reason to give anyone any special recognition. That type of mentality tends to suggest that one group of athletes feel more special than other athletes. It's that sort of segregating behavior that causes people to blast their own for feeling they are more special and deserve special recognition. Maybe we should call the football team the 'Money' Vols since they bring in the majority of the revenue so people can bicker over petty topics such as this.

The women's basketball team is still Lady Vols - not Vols - to all the rest. Anybody that calls them Vols is going against the University and AD.

Look, why don't you just admit you are scared of strong independent women who stand on their own. Because you are.

Why? Because you say so? You don't know me. Any bs attempt on your part to pigeonhole me to fit your agenda only shows your ignorance. A matter of fact, what exactly are the lady sports independent of exactly? Financing? I would love for the women's programs to stand alone and not be a drain to the football program. But thanks to Title !X(which does apply here Slider) that's not going to happen. You just have the illusion that the Lady Vols are independent. And what exactly do they want to be independent of? The university? Your arguments make no sense. I think you are independent of logic.

They are special, but no more or less than any other program. I have mad respect for Pat Summit. I think she deserves credit for getting Thompson Boling arena built. But that doesn't mean they are the flagship program that deserves any more recognition that any other sports program. It's called being a team. And I think a lot of you think or believe they are or should be separate from the rest of the programs. A lot of you on this board is the small minority outside of these walls. Most schools don't have a special designation to differentiate men's and women's teams. So why should Tennessee be any different? Why is it so important for that special designation of one word to be on a female jersey? I begging for one of you to make a logical compelling argument.

The Lady Vols basketball program is DISTINCT from the other women's athletic programs. They are distinct because they have an unparalleled record of success and integrity. Nike will never change that.

Exactly why does Nike wield such power over the University of Tennessee?

Does Nike have an unblemished record of integrity? Explain those sweatshops and the use of child labor that has allowed Nike to pocket billions of dollars.

No apparel company should be able to have the power over the Tennessee athletics department that NIKE now has.

BOYCOTT NIKE.

Pat Summitt spent her life working to empower women to be able to stand on their own. It meant more to her than winning games. Winning the games was just a means to that end for her. If you knew her, or knew about her, you'd know this. But you don't.

I don't have to. The University and AD have already decided the women's basketball team will remain the Lady Vols. So I am waiting for you to make a logical compelling argument why the University and AD should reverse that decision. But you can't.

Title IX applies to the existence of the women's basketball program. It doesn't apply to the name of the program.

Title IX is a law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in any federally funded education program or activity.

Put another way, if you pay to fund an activity, you cannot be prohibited from participating in that activity based upon your gender.

As long as there is a men's basketball program there will be a women's basketball program.

But Title IX has nothing to do with the name of the team.

That's your problem. You think speaking definitively gives you more credibility. Quite the opposite, it shows desperation and insecurity. You want the conversation to end because it makes you feel uncomfortable. While Pat's record is awesome. Let's be real here. It's not as if woman's basketball was as nearly competitive as it is today. And it is definitely not as competitive as the sports that you and others like you attempt to trivialize and bash. I don't have to make a compelling argument because the writing is on the wall. The Lady Vols is slowly going away, and I guess all of you that have a problem with it will have to find a new cause to gripe about. It's almost as if you think the Lady Vols belong to you. I'd be curious as to what you have done personally to make the Lady Vols a better product other than being one of the 6 or 7 rows of fans that show up to the games.

The logical end to your position is a loss of individual identity. There are places in this world where that is the norm. Muslim countries or North Korea for example. Loose yourself in a sea of sameness in North Korea for a year and let us know how you like it. I wouldn't like it, not one of us would. This country was founded by people who placed a premium on forging an individual identity, people who got on boats and sailed long distances because they thought there was a better way than being told what to think. No one in this country was ever afraid of having an individual identity.

Well, except for men afraid of women basketball players having an individual identity.
