If I'm Shrout and Maurer I transfer

Medical redshirts are approved for players who meet strict criteria: They must have suffered the season-ending injury during the first half of the season, and they could not have played in more than three games before sustaining the injury.
Which goes against him getting one? He's played in 5 games, the final injury was after the first half of the year

Depends on when you define when he got his 1st concussion I suspect. He's only played like 6 or 7 quarters, that factors in as well.

I'm not sure but I think season goes by the calendar and not games played. We've (where I work) had this come up in the past. Regardless of the rule the NCAA doesn't seem to give out many medical redshirts, not sure why. If BM has been instructed to shut down I suspect he'll have a good case for a medical RS. If he's been truly cleared to play then I suspect he'll get some playing time down the stretch. Also, Pruitt may just be doing him a favor by trying to save him a year so that he'll still have 4 years of eligibility if coach knows he'll likely get a medical redshirt.

It's the NCAA so I will readily admit I have no clue what they're doing or what they consider (the transfer rulings show a lack of consistency to things) but I would think that would lead to causation style of claims. I would think the game rule would be like the typical redshirt rule where if you play it counts as a game. Main thing is hopefully he's got the concussion dealt with before he takes another snap (whether it be Saturday or next year) head injuries are no joke

I think he, meaning Maurer, will be fine. He should be able to put weight onto his frame during his down time, he'll get a full 4-5 months to heal up before spring where he will be in a 3 way battle for the starting QB position for next season. It would have been nice had he never played before he was ready I feel.

If Maurer does get a medical redshirt, he is not going to transfer and we will see him again. He is happy at UT and I know that for a FACT. He may or may not be trying for a medical, but I will wait till I here it from Fulmer or Pruitt before I believe it though. GBO!
Another poster stated you cannot apply for a medical redshirt until year 4 and then it is not a guaranteed approval. Maurer was cleared to play last week and has played in 5 games. Pruitt also has stated Maurer was cleared against UAB. For all the people with inside information please explain how this would work out if the information in this post is true?
I have serious doubts about the medical redshirt claims at this time. Someone convince me on the merits of the rumors.

Completely agree with you on that, he needed a year in the weight room (and I think everyone was fully anticipating him getting it). JG struggling this year really has had quite the domino effect on everything. Will be interesting to see how the future turns out with Bailey coming in next year, future appears to be bright

Way off. Suggestion - Watch Pruitt pressers.

ohhh you think he would want transfers to happen mid season?? Of course not! So he would never trash the qb in pressers. He would start a true freshman! He is a smart coach and he knows he needs better QB play. That’s obvious now that the line is playing better. He couldn’t really see that last year with the line being the worst in sec. When Chaney recruits his OWN QB then things will get interesting.

You can apply for medical redshirt any season. There is strict criteria that has to be met. Anyone saying you have to wait until after your Sr year is wrong.

The only thing that I don’t get is JG will make boneheaded decisions like that constantly, yet they leave him in. But when a freshman who’s expected to make mistakes messes up once, he gets yanked. It should be other way around. The experienced junior should know better

Who started the 2nd half?????

I'm getting a migraine trying to find up to date rules. Can you link to official NCAA rules? I keep getting google rabbit holed with tons of website & sports blog links from 2006-2018 giving their take on what the rules mean. Some say it's by the amount of games played. Some say it's by the halfway point of the season.
Regardless of the rule the NCAA doesn't seem to give out many medical redshirts, not sure why.
Because everyone would game the system to their benefit wherever possible if the NCAA didn't make it next to impossible to attain.

He wouldn't have been announced cleared to play by Pruitt and on the sideline in full uniform verse UAB if Pruitt were trying to help him get a medical.

That was me, apologies. I misinterpreted previous rules I had read up on.

Sorry, I don't have a million and nowhere near it. I was just saying there's no one named Mauer on the team and so no one named Mauer will be transferring, but I'm terrible at being funny.

I am terrible at being literate apparently.

Just telling you of Im a player I want to play. If you cant get in the game at this point you aint playing.

And yeah I get it about Maurer. I'd keep him out too for today as we are playing in inferior opponent.\

Fixed.

Maurer would be silly to transfer. Next year the top spot is his to lose.
JG would be silly to leave as well unless he is a grad transfer and thinks he can get playing time somewhere else but he will more than likely be 2nd string and get playing time next year. He doesn't seem like a quitter to me after everything he has been through.
Shrout is the only one on the list that would make sense transferring if he is worried about getting beat out by the QB coming in next year. If he is afraid of a little competition then bye! I hope he does not leave so we can RS the new kid and have a 3 qb's ready next year because if this year has proven anything it is that we will need at least 3 qb's to get through the year.

If Maurer loses out to HB next year then he'll be gone I feel, especially if he gets granted a medical RS for this year.

If KY had Maurer or Shrout at QB they'd beat us bad this year. If Pruitt doesn't try and get a medical RS on Maurer and doesn't play Shrout ahead of JG I think both will transfer. There are lots of opportunities for QBs, KY is only one.

I also predict that Pruitt and Chaney will have us struggling at QB next year as well.
and before you waste time disagreeing.... It's a prediction.. time will settle all disagreements.

That is why coaches rarely announce who won the starting job in situations like this until right before the season starts. They kids are invested at that point and feel like the competition is closer than maybe it really is. Maybe in the middle of the season next year if he gets beat out but I still think he will be here game one next year.
