If I'm Shrout and Maurer I transfer

As wildly unpopular this thread is, most likely that is exactly what will happen. Especially if they sign a top QB recruit. You can throw JG into that mix as well. Depending on who the coach is at Rutgers next year that I wouldn’t be shocked too see him in transfer portal.

Whoever posted that BM is red shirting, you may be on to something. Most likely we will find out next week. I expect JG to start and if he struggles then Pruitt will have to decide how bad he needs a bowl game. BM had a helmet on during the game so he isn’t in concussion protocol. We will see what happens. Go Vols.

I don't have to watch film, but I have reviewed the game twice today, too conclude that JG is not very good at QB and with a left hand injury should not have played.

Also it doesn't take an analyst to see that Pruitt is sticking with under par QB JG instead of giving experience to the freshmen QBs, that in my opinion are both better than JG already.

But my analysis of the season so far is that Pruitt is playing JG as not to scare off the QB recruit from Marietta GA and that neither Shrout or Maurer are going to play next year.

So why are you crying about their transferring to another school that might play them?

Dang man! Maybe you should send some resume's out and see what's out there for ya......

They can make the throws, but I don't think Shroit quite knows what he's looking at and Maurer is on under 50% and has more picks than TDs.

There aren't any good answers right now.

Get your head ... JG has not read a route progression in 2 years, can't see the blitz coming, has trouble getting the ball out on time. And unless we are playing a terrible team we have no chance of winning with JG.

Why would he start Saturday vs Ky when he was healthy this week vs UAB and didn't even get in the game?

Cleared doesn't always mean the player is 100%.
We know Maurer was in concussion protocol.
Whether Maurer actually had a concussion or a neck stinger they very well might have thought it was best to give him another week of rest.

The plan could have been to play Maurer the 2nd half of UAB, or a different scenario...., but with a 23-0 half time lead they decided it was best to rest him so as not to tip our hand to Kentucky.

I'm guessing we aren't gonna know who starts at QB against Kentucky until game time.

If we end up winning out the narrative will be; Pruitt really matured as a HC and employed great strategy keeping opponents from being able to gamelan against us. He's gonna lead is back to the SECCG!!!!

If we don't make a bowl the narrative will be; Pruitt is an idiot and cost us a bowl game. Not committing to -insert your preferred QB- stopped Chaney from being able to gameplan. Pruitt shouldn't get a 3rd year!!!

Way off. Suggestion - Watch Pruitt pressers.

Same thing I've heard as well, we'll see I guess. We've got some on here that don't even think he's hurt at all, that we are saving him for the final stretch run. Those same guys will be the ones yelling at Pruitt for not playing Maurer. That will be their reasoning anyway when BM transfers out.
When you heard Maurer would be applying for a medical redshirt did you question the information? Pruitt said post game Maurer was good to go and didn't play due to limited reps in practice. The coach saying the player is healthy and available would surely make a medical redshirt about impossible to get wouldn't it? You believe the coach right? I know you believed Trey when he took accountability for the line issues last night. So assuming you believe the coach and you work in the recruiting industry (as you claim) you would know that to receive a medical redshirt there is certain criteria to qualify one of which is the injury must be season ending. Knowing you are aware of this based on your professional experience when you heard that Maurer may be filing for a medical redshirt did you question the validity of the statement? If you did question it what was said that made you feel comfortable enough posting this information on Volnation? Also if you would oblige where and from whom did you hear this?

Obviously you are getting information from elsewhere rather than just online. It would be interesting to hear more about what you heard and how it was explained that Maurer would qualify. You question information on here often so I feel confident you would have questioned this especially with your industry related knowledge of the rules.

Thanks for the additional information regarding Maurer potentially applying for a medical redshirt.

When did the NCAA start reviewing for medical redshirts for reasons other than a 6th year of eligibility?

The NCAA doesn't define the parameters for redshirt under the standard, 5 and 4 years eligibility, as far as I know.

The standard redshirt can be for general acclimating to campus life & study, transferring, actual medical injury, or general first year strength and growth development.

Unless the NCAA tweaked the way they review for medical redshirts a few years ago when they changed the rules to allow players to participate in up to 4 games before redshirting, then a player can't apply for a medical redshirt until after their 5th year is exhausted.

If I'm wrong I'll own it. But I think people claiming Maurer's applying for a medical redshirt are misinformed.

Brandon Kennedy probably would have already applied if he could, but per the rules, Kennedy has to wait until after his 5th year.

Go to a school where you can get to play.

It's all about playing the game. Leave watching the game to fans

I think we all need to remember something Pruitt said. He recently said, JG is our best quarterback. And it’s not even close. I won’t put quote markers around that, but it is the best I remember. There are a lot of ways to parse those words. I look at it as meaning the backups could develop, but they aren’t there yet.

Shrout has used his RS and should stay. He'll graduate after next year with two years of eligibility remaining. He'll get better coaching with Chaney, Tee, and Weinke than any other option likely open to him.

Maurer appears to be injured and appeared to be accepted even by Pruitt as the starter prior to his last injury. His options are more open. I hope he stays.

Thats outdated information. Sorry. Maurer is applying for a medical redshirt, and I have knowledge on his particular situation.
Can you explain how that would work?

How would it benefit him? I have never seen anyone apply for a medical redshirt early in their career. All of them have been late attempts to extend their careers at the end.

Medical redshirts are approved for players who meet strict criteria: They must have suffered the season-ending injury during the first half of the season, and they could not have played in more than three games before sustaining the injury.
