If I'm Shrout and Maurer I transfer

You sure about that? Really sure? Maybe he's getting a different kind of redshirt.....mmmmma mmma mme mmmmed
Welp

Medical redshirts are approved for players who meet strict criteria: They must have suffered the season-ending injury during the first half of the season, and they could not have played in more than three games before sustaining the injury.

Yep, drives me crazy too.... we need Maurer back healthy and to keep him healthy.

I'm at an academic prep school with a highly rated football program. Just a little factoid about recovery from concussion today...

Part of recovery for a guy with a concussion is also limited study time. Yes. When we shut a player down for a concussion, it's not just about protecting his brain from physical contact. We have to shut down most of his mental activity. Studies show recovery is faster and more complete when the brain is allowed to rest and reset from within.

Point being... if you think Maurer spent his first week after each concussion working on the mental side of the game, studying the playbook, or in the film room, (I hope) you're mistaken. A concussion today is a big setback for an athlete in his development.

Don't expect to see a "fresh and improved" Maurer next time he takes the field. He got behind, on the field and probably in the classroom.

JG threw an interception and after a series JG went back in. Tonight was the night to let JT play a half and Maurer play a half to prepare them for the last 3 games should they be needed but guess what, one series and JT is jerked. Put yourself in the kids shoes. So Pruitt lets JG take hit after hit to show how tough he is and take a chance on getting the other hand broken rather than play JT. I call it being petty.
You guys know as well as I do when JG was taking those hits you wondered why in the world would Pruitt leave him in knowing he could injure the hand worse or break the other hand.

That's some of our opinions just like yours. Pruitt is the coach and his being hard headed is not going to help him down the road imo. After awhile his side line antics will run some coaches off and maybe some good players.

you are making a lot of assumptions here. Didn’t JT play most of the second half? Also to assume that you know motive for decisions made is a stretch.

Go to a school where you can get to play.

It's all about playing the game. Leave watching the game to fans

Shrout is apparently not nearly as fragile as you as he sure was having a good time speaking in the post-game video the players have been doing the last few weeks.

Why would he start Saturday vs Ky when he was healthy this week vs UAB and didn't even get in the game?

Maybe, Pruitt felt we could win this game without Maurer. And once we had the lead he was comfortable with the extra time for Maurer to completely heal? Who really knows, any answer is pure speculation.

Why do you think Maurer not playing against UAB means he won't start over 2 QB's that were just pulled during the game for performance issues?

If Maurer is healthy I believe he gets the start at Kentucky who is significantly better than UAB.. If he's not then JG will get the majority of time. Shrout was given a chance although a small chance and he didn't get it done. All the UAB game showed us from a QB standpoint is JG is ahead of Shrout.

I also believe JG would have started the UAB game over Shrout had it not been for his hand. He played as well as could be expected given the situation. JG's game against UAB did not show he is ready to start if Maurer is available against better competition in my opinion.

The Vols will need them both to get to a bowl or even pull off a long winning streak to wrap up the year. Let's just all hope they are healing up and are ready to have a great week of practice and preperation for the Cats.

Go Vols

Thats outdated information. Sorry. Maurer is applying for a medical redshirt, and I have knowledge on his particular situation.

I hope he gets it for his sake cause it appears pruitt doesn't want a qb who has the potential to be a great qb. And maurer transfers

And I think we might cut JG just a little slack based on him being all of 6 days post-surgery.
He used up every bit of slack I ever had for him with his rogue play against Alabama. Sorry. I know he's a "great kid" and "gives his all for Tennessee" but I am ready for Jarrett Guarantano to move on.

Maurer will enter the spring as the favorite to start. This is ridiculous.

He is already a favorite to start with almost everyone but Pruitt. Pruitt is a defensive minded guy. He wants to control the clock by runs and win with defense. But we dont have the defensive players Pruitt is used to having at his previous stops. Our defense is playing well but not good enough to win if we cant score at least 28 offensive scores just my opinion.

Watching JG play in a game is like having Andre the Giant give you a bear hug. You hope he doesn't squeeze to tight, but you know you can't do anything about it. I sit nervously waiting for him to not lose the game, it's terrifying.

Slack, really, he made the same poor throws before the injury, the same ones every game since he's been here unless he's about to get smoked. The guy has no touch, can't drop one in on a guy running the go, overthrows it or leaves it short. Rifles the ball at the dump off. Throws behind the slant. Throws a floater on the post. He's just not a good QB, period. The other guys have the problems of experience and youth, problems that improve, but they can make the throws.

I heard Pruitt say in his own words we were getting Brian ready to start this week but he wasn't quite ready, he said that on his show this morning. That's why we decided to go with JG and JT he said. I think they were confident that they could win this game with JG and JT, surprised JT didn't play more. I think they were just being extra precautious with BM. We need to win 6 and we need everybody ready for the last 3 games. It was a chance to give JG some playing time and confidence, I think JT deserved more time, but he is the coach. Once again I just want the best guy in, and in my eyes Maurer is it. I JT has a better arm than JG but JG knows the offense better. I think he has probably worked the Qb better than all of us realize. I just want what is best for the offense, I guarantee you down the stretch all are probably going to play at some point. JMHO! GBO!!!!!

Same thing I've heard as well, we'll see I guess. We've got some on here that don't even think he's hurt at all, that we are saving him for the final stretch run. Those same guys will be the ones yelling at Pruitt for not playing Maurer. That will be their reasoning anyway when BM transfers out.

For the record I never said I didn't think he was hurt, I have no doubt he has been hurt or he would be playing. Maurer isn't going to transfer out. I thought the starter of this thread was nuts and said so. If anyone transfers out it would be JT and I have no way of knowing if that's the case or not. Did hear JT in a interview talking about loving the staff and that all the qb's got along well which appears to be the case. GBO!
