He had a few more than people know. You gotta remember the services DO NOT make offers public until the prospect decides to come out with it publicly out of respect. He committed to UT before “The Opening” and stood by his commitment. Anyone would be a fool to believe after finishing 5th that his offer list stayed the same.lol is that why he had all those SEC offers?
He's in a terrible situation. He's got a 3 year RS Sr starter in front of him and one of GAs most highly decorated HS QBs to ever play coming in to compete. Maurer was always the QB that had the most to lose if JG turned into a productive starter. Harrison Bailey is legit, a big time prospect who will be a starter at UT for more than just 1 season. BM is talented, he won't stay here just to sit the bench 3 more years. The question is will another SEC team come calling or will it be a smaller school that he ends up.I think Maurer is too smart and too competitive to transfer.
Chaney has a proven track record of getting guys to the league. He’s also proven that he isn’t afraid to sling the rock. Plus, there’s no reason to think he’s going anywhere. Maurer knows this and he knows his body could use some development before being handed the reins. Redshirt next year and be ready to compete for the job in 2021 after 2 years in the system and 2 years in S&C with 3 years of eligibility.
He’s in a great situation. Not going anywhere, IMO.
Pruitt made the final decision on weather or not to offer after his work out. Helton was quoted afterwords saying his workout was amongst the best he’d ever seen. But Helton found him. In fact Helton was at the game that Maurer accounted for over 700 yards of offense.I
Perhaps your right, I don’t know, but I remember reading somewhere that it was Pruitt himself.
You love your BM conspiracy theories. He had a few more than people know. I’m not here to argue with you or any other delusional fan. You guys take the fun out of debating. There was once a reporter that reported a kids decision before he was ready to go public, last year I believe. That reporter lost his job if I’m not mistaken. Jason Swain talked about it on his show. If you think the offers suddenly stopped for Maurer AFTER his performance at “The Opening” you’re even more of a bone head than people here give you credit for.You love your BM conspiracy theories.![]()
I'll take your word for it. Yall are obviously best buddies or family or something.I’m not here to argue with you or any other delusional fan. You guys take the fun out of debating. Let me repeat..... a kids offer list only becomes public display if HE CHOOSES for it be made public. Maurer CHOSE for his commitment to UT to be final and therefore didn’t entertain other schools. You under estimate his level of the word “commitment”.
You're assuming Bailey is better than him. It would be foolish for Maurer to make that assumption when he could simply find out next year without losing a year of eligibility all the while training under an excellent strength staff and one of the best offensive minds in college football. He's in a terrible situation. His HC from Hs said if he wasn’t a D1 qb he could easily be a D1 wr because of his athletic abilities. That being said he’s much better as a qb . Moving him would be stupid because he’s not a “strong” runner. He’s just fast and somewhat elusive. Not sure why that would even be a consideration anyway tbh. Many think HB is better due to rank and/or strength of competition. But if you take all the ingredients of a perfect qb and compare the 2 there are very few things HB tops Maurer.I'll take your word for it. Yall are obviously best buddies or family or something.
What do you think about a move to wr to get on the field? He is pretty athletic. That way he can get some pt.
Easy killa. I won't get into everying that is bologna here but I can't help but remind you that Maurer has been far from accurate on Saturdays. And WTH is this garbage about Bailey not being well-liked? Them's fighting words. I like Maurer and think he could go great things in Knoxville, but it might be a good idea to pump the breaks a little. His HC from Hs said if he wasn’t a D1 qb he could easily be a D1 wr because of his athletic abilities. Size- Bailey
Arm strength- Maurer (Bailey 58, Maurer 65)
accuracy- Maurer (short and intermediate, long is a wash)
Leadership-Maurer (I’ve heard several times HB is not well liked)
Speed/elusive- not even worth discussion
Pocket presence- wash
Decision making- wash at this level. They both will need time to adjust to the speed of the game.
There are 2 things total that Maurer needs to get better. Size and decision making. Both will come naturally with time. Think of playing against both as a junior or senior and BM is the more scary one to defend once the game slows down. That kind of upside as a qb doesn’t warrant a position change. Jmo
Most that evaluate players "assume" that Bailey is better. He'll be here in January practicing with the team. BM will know within a week of practices where he stands. I hope he stays, just don't see why he would. Had JG transferred he would be in a little bit of a better situation, JG playing well and earning the starting spot was the worst thing that could have happened for Maurer. His injuries have hampered his growth as well, he would have been better off not playing any this year and just focusing on getting bigger and stronger, now he's still 6 months behind in that development as well. Things don't look good for his future in Knoxville unless circumstances change. I've always said that he would get pinched for playing time, even when he committed, no knock on him as it was based more on JG and Bailey just being better options at the time. You're assuming Bailey is better than him. It would be foolish for Maurer to make that assumption when he could simply find out next year without losing a year of eligibility all the while training under an excellent strength staff and one of the best offensive minds in college football.
From what I've seen speed and elusiveness is the one area I would give BM an advantage over Bailey in.His HC from Hs said if he wasn’t a D1 qb he could easily be a D1 wr because of his athletic abilities. You're dumber than two buckets of rocks. Your arguments for Bailey have less basis in fact than your 2 years of denial that JG had head issues. From what I've seen speed and elusiveness is the one area I would give BM an advantage over Bailey in.
BM has not been accurate or made good decisions passing the ball here. Bailey has been known for accuracy, touch, and command since 9th grade. He hasn't done it here either though. We will see.
I’ve heard it several times. Just hearsay. In fact the last time it was said was at the opening. They let the kids decide who the mvp was and his likeness was a brought up. Again..... just hearsay. No confirmation but when it’s said over and over it reminds you of the saying “where’s there’s smoke there’s fire”. But again..... I have no idea outside of word on the street.Easy killa. I won't get into everying that is bologna here but I can't help but remind you that Maurer has been far from accurate on Saturdays. And WTH is this garbage about Bailey not being well-liked? That’s all I was trying to say. Thank you for helping clear it upYou're dumber than two buckets of rocks. Your arguments for Bailey have less basis in fact than your 2 years of denial that JG had head issues.
Maurer played as a true Fr and made true Fr mistakes. He has been VERY accurate. He has made some great decisions... and some very poor ones. But he's had the moxie to make decisions, and mistakes, then move on to the next play with confidence. He has everything you need to become a great QB. He just needs time, experience, and development. He is MUCH better at this point of his career than JG was at this point of his RS season.
Bailey may be or become great. But there is very little in his HS career that can prove he will. LOTS of really good HS players do not become good CFB players. One of the biggest differences between HB and BM as recruits is that HB is surrounded by a bunch of other college prospects. BM was surrounded by pretty much nothing.... terrible talent and players.
I've watched a good bit of Bailey's highlight film. He has a nice arm but no stronger or inherently more accurate than Maurer. He doesn't have Shrout's arm strength. His head may set him apart... his arm and accuracy do not at this point.
Just comparing Hs stats to Hs stats. It’s actually the best way to compare given neither have had time to adjust to college. So all you have to go on is their last known abilities when they both had a complete understanding of their offense they played in.How can a guy who's still in high school even be compared with Brian Maurer? Those things aren't set in stone when you're still in high school.
