Here is what I would do, but let me first take you back five years. In 2007, the 20th ranked Volunteers were expected to handily beat the unranked Alabama Crimson Tide under new coach Nick Saban. However, Alabama kicked off to start the game and did an unexpected onside kick and recovered. They marched down the field and took the lead off of a 39 yard field goal. They stopped the Vols and then scored a TD to lead 10-0. Bama was up 24-17 at the half and ended up winning the game by a margin of 41-17 and shocking the CFB world. The Tide went on the have a paltry season record of 7-6 and placed second to last in the SEC West ahead of only 3-9 Ole Miss.

That was the first game against Alabama with Saban as head coach and he has never, NEVER, lost to the Vols. It is about time that changes. I know it is a long shot, but we can win this game. Here's how I'd write the script:

I almost always want to defer to the second half if we win the toss but in this situation, I say we take it, onside kick it, and recover. Then drive it down the field, or heck, give it to CP and let him just run it in from however far back we are. Take the early lead, play hard nosed defense, errorless offense, and don't give the lead back.

I love how in 2009, Mark Ingram, who had never lost a fumble before, lost one and almost allowed us to win that game (curse the armpit of Mount Cody!). We will need a big turnover from Alabama late and then hold on to the ball as the seconds tick away. Then, I don't care how many police officers are around the goal posts, they aren't going to stop 102,000 people. Tear those suckers down! The Saban streak dies today!

30 years ago this week was the biggest upset Tennessee ever had over Alabama. We were unranked and they were No. 2. Coach Majors had to get down off the shoulders of his players in order to shake Bear Bryant's hand. It was the last time Bryant would coach a game against Tennessee, as he retired at the end of the season. History will repeat itself in front of 102,000, in front of Coach Fulmer, Peyton Manning, and the 97 SEC title team. GBO! Go Vols!! Let's do this!

I actually like this idea.

What do you have to lose?

Seriously . . . It's not like the defense is slowing anybody down anyway.

Last week our players did not appear to know that the ball was live on a kick-off.

Hope we win but my expectations are as low as they have ever been for a Bama game [I go back to 1978].

GBO!

What's the difference between an 80 yard TD drive and a 50 yard TD drive? Nothing but the amount of time it takes to score. Our defense can't stop a nose bleed. Might as well onside kick multiple times tonight.

Nose bleeds are hard to stop. Besides, bammer has a really big nose.

In 2004, the Titans attempted 3 onside kicks in the 1st Q. Without McNair they knew Peyton and the Colts were going to crush them. They figured Peyton would score a TD on every drive regardless of field position, so why not try and get the ball back. Even if you don't and give up great field position for the opposition, they'll score regardless. Just makes the result happen quicker.

With our swiss cheese defense that Sal runs, why not? Bama will score regardless and this keeps our defense on the field less if Bama doesn't have to march down the field.

3 onside kicks? Way too much of a gamble ... but one or two along with some fake punts, fake field goals, a few hook and ladders, CP throwing bombs to CP, playing with 12 people on key downs (only if we don't get caught), holding on certain plays when Bray is pressured and an occasional block in the back when needed (only if we don't get caught), block every kick Bama attempts (probably only extra points) and I honestly love our chances today.

As Joey Kent said this week, when you play Bama, throw out the records. GBO VFL

Quick kick on third down and try a drop kick by the QB instead of FG's.

Run the statue of liberty play 8 times. I think after about the 3rd time their players will fall down laughing and we will score.

Run the ball with the same play right up the middle every down until their D gets bored. Sooner or later we break a big gainer.

On defense: All def players should be instructed to try and hug and kiss the bammer def. players after every play-and pinch them on the a$$. The gayness will freak them out, their homophobia will erupt, and they will be hesitant to run at us.....or even play at all.

Hey, it could work.
