If Heupel stays.....

Is everyone really this worried that Josh Heupel is leaving for OU? Yes, he had a good first season here and we have some momentum going into next year, but IMO he has not accomplished enough to prove he can compete for championships in the SEC. It is my opinion that if anyone should be worried, it is Kentucky. What Mike Stoops has accomplished there with their (lack of) facilities and tradition is very impressive.

I don't think CJH is leaving and I'm all for that, but it nags at me how he chose Milton over Hooker to start the season. Heupel's hyper offense requires precision, mobility, and quick-thinking at the qb position and Joe came up far short on the 1st part. Still hard to imagine that HH was a back-up until game 3...

OK, guys. There has been and will be much speculation on what Heupel will do. And I am know most threads have already hashed out what happens if he leaves.

But this is a 50-50 proposition. He stays or he goes. What do we do if he stays? If he does, and you appreciate him choosing Tennessee over his alma mater? Folks, that is huge. In today's age of multiple coaches being fired or moving on every year, I suggest we go out of our way to show our appreciation. I am sure the students will be painting the rock. And I bet plenty of people will be calling their sports radio station of choice.

I open this to the suggestions of others, but I am going to open with my main two target dates: The Orange and White spring game, and September 3 when the Vols open against Ball State. What kind of very creative ways can we show Josh Heupel, and his entire staff our deep appreciation? I know some of you can get creative. Heck we were pretty good at showing our displeasure when Kiffin left, and when Schiano was signing his MOU. Let show we can do just as well making this cup overflow in the opposite way.
It’s not 50-50. He’s staying

Josh Heupel and staff have put together the best football program base in the SEC-- or even the country! Of course Oklahoma will come calling and they would be foolish if they did not! We are in a fight for our future right NOW! White needs to step up and make this right for the long term right now! We've seen enough! Heupel is the man. We need to get into the bidding war and do whatever it takes to nail this down for the long term! Pay him and his staff what they are worth! Then Heupel can step up and state that this is not a stepping stone job but a destination job and he is going nowhere!

So Mark Stoops has been on the job for 7 years and he is a quality candidate for the Oklahoma job.

But the guy who took over an absolute dumpster fire, lost around 25% of his roster to the portal, morale of the fans and players at an all time low and still went on the road and beat Stoops....he isnt a qualified candidate?

If you were hiring a coach today...you would pick Mark Stoops over Josh Heupel?
To be honest, I just think Mark Stoops has a better overall resume in the SEC. And, yes, if I were LSU or Oklahoma, I would target Mark Stoops over JH, but that is just my opinion, and doesn’t mean that I am necessarily correct. I certainly hope JH stays at TN and has a long and successful career here.

Mark stoops is an average coach

Yeah some people were saying that same thing when Carroll left USC. How the Hell did that turn out? Bud, you need a damn reality check. I gotta assume that Oklahoma may circle the wagons on him within the next 48 hours. And he will accept or stay; 50-50 right now.

Ya know? Just judging from the above responses so far? No wonder we have had a decode plus of misery and instability. If this is the mentality of the majority of the fan base? We kinda deserved it.
The same admin that fired him. The same AD that fired him from Oklahoma? Nah, not buying it

Can we please stop with these freak out threads. CJH got fired by Oklahoma when he was the OC he ain't going back. He is building something here at TN. He isn't Kiffin and I'm glad of it.
He may not be leaving (I don't think he is) but him being fired from OU has NOTHING to do with it. Absolutely nothing. Folly to think he would turn down the kind of money OU can offer because his pride was hurt many years ago.

Okay, I can get behind this sort of response. When I opened the thread, I really thought it was going to be someone else wanting to throw ridiculous sums of someone else's money at a guy who just completed his first year on the job and has yet to sign a legit recruiting class.

Show him the love, but until he proves his worth in this league, I'd not be showing him the money just yet although what he earns is damned nice and still, like all the salaries in CFB, absolutely insane.

i don't think he's leaving either.

i'm no expert (i just act like one). but i also thought there were issues between stoops and venables and that's why when arizona canned the other stoops brother, he replaced venables as DC. As a lot of yall posted last night in phase 1 of the meltdown, stoops is a big part in the OU hc search and he's the reason why heupel left the program.

some of the clemson sites are melting down:
Multiple Reports Link Brent Venables to Oklahoma Opening

mark stoops seems to be working with the kentucky wildcats dept on getting a new practice field and more money for recruiting. but that ou money can do some talking.

i've read a few things about cristobal, but many people think he's going to hold out until diaz is let go in miami and then he'll go back to the sunshine state.

there aren't many coaches out there right now. Napier was the best candidate available imo and he recently got snatched up.

I read this article and sighed in relief that heupel wasn't even listed as a top 5 candidate:
OU football coaching candidates to replace Lincoln Riley
If Venables goes to OU, Clemson will implode. Their defense is the only thing that won them games this year. Without Venables, they would probably be 3-9. He’s already the highest-paid assistant coach, and I believe his kids are at least college aged. Most here think he wouldn’t leave unless it was for a blue-blood program like OU

Exactly. Think someone said Stoops is interim. I'm sure those two would just let bygones be bygones and nail down a contract in no time flat. What some fans don't think about is who your boss is going to be if you make a move as a head coach. Heupel knows White and they've worked well together. Not sure that can be said of the power structure at OU above Stoops. Besides, if Heupel has shown me anything, it's that he's not a Kiffin type. He's got character. He doesn't garner the respect of a team like he has this year by being fake like Kiffin. He's the anti-Kiffin IMO so while he'd have no qualms about leaving a program after a year, I really can't see a guy like Heupel doing that. I'd be shocked and greatly disappointed if he did.....and sadly, in the world we live in, disappointment is to be expected.

I don't know how good of a head coach Venebles would be but a lot of Toms, Dicks and Harrys could be DC for Clemson with their defensive talent over the past few years...

Doesn't he have to be offered the job first? Good grief people step back from the ledge!

The show of appreciation is the $20 million buyout for a guy who turned a 13-0 program into a 6-4 program in three seasons.
Dude! Look at why and look at his record and look at what he did this year. You have hated on our coach all year when there is people that know a hell of alot more about football than you that appreciates his coaching abilities and they are not even Tennessee fans.
