Helfrich was in Nashville to visit with Marcus after his surgery. 1 visit to Vols practice and he's in line for a job I bet if you visit other sites that may need a OC they think he's coming there also. Hope for the best though.

Butch should just be the the OC. (IMO) He's already handcuffed the next guy from what I've been reading. I can't believe he won't let the next OC make any changes to the offense. So why not just coach for your job butch.

It's the 0 to 100 mentality on here. Many completely skip over steps 2-99....then get upset when it doesn't work out and they have to go back to figure out who's to blame.

right now its an unknown who would be ditching who. maybe after face to face the last week CBJ decides he doesn't fit.

CBJ has been vetting Helfrich for a month or so. If something doesn't come down in the next 48 hours I would say they have determined to not pursue, they being both.

the position is open that needed to open to make Helfrich OC/QB coach. shouldn't take long to announce if he is going to be the guy

Just for fun, since it was a question of if helfrich doesnt come what about darrel hazell? not a good HC but as a associate head coach and wr/special teams guy he was apart of some really really good offenses at ohio state with some qbs and offenses similar to what we run. Wouldnt be a bad hire at all.

If the coaches, admins, players, cheerleaders or janitors at UT pay any attention to chat boards, they are cracking up about how Debord was a bum yesterday, but an offensive genius minutes after he took another job.

Bingo. How many national titles did Kelly win at Oregon? Zero. After first loss, all you would hear on here is that he isn't a national championship coach and will never get there. Rinse, repeat.

I still think Helfrich is a strong possibility but that's just my opinion. After doing some research on Yurirch from OK state, I wouldnt be opposed to this hire. I like coach Scott, think coach Z did better with WRs this year, but I just don't trust them as OCs. Butch had too much to lose to chance it with them, he needs a proven guy and to improve not stay status quo.

I also believe Butch feels the pressure this time and knows he needs to make a big splash on this hire. I know he said he would look internally too, but of course you're going to say that not to upset anybody on your current staff.

This could be the beginning of the end or the fresh start we need. Ultimately, I believe we will love the hire.

The more I dig into Yurirch the more I like. If it's not Helfrich I hope it's Yurirch. He has OK state in the top 15 in almost every major offensive category in the country. Pretty impressive.

Debord was going to retire it's been reported that Butch will take his time with his hire. I will bet he doesn't have anyone yet. At the end of the day I hope he just ends up with the right guy. If we improve dramatically on D and play decent on offense next year with a new OC and returning a boatload of players including an offensive and defensive line stacked with upperclassmen, he secures another year. If he promotes from within and we don't play well he and his staff will have a much tougher time sticking around, because we will have a good situation for a new hire to come in and make a big difference quickly with so many players coming back. Either way, I have his back THIS season whatever decision he makes. But if he brings in an outside OC and we improve dramatically on defense, he will have my support for two years guaranteed. Not that he would give a 💩 what I think ha, but I bet the opinion is fairly popular and he may want to consider the logic of hiring a new OC vs promoting from within.
