If Helfrich doesn't come...

You mean Chip Kelly does........at the college level.......Helfrich's team did nothing this season......remember? He was fired.........
Mark Helfrich ran the Oregon Offense starting in 2009. He may not be a good HC but the man knows how to run an Offense

It didn't other than the fact that Shoop was a top pick for DC last year. I agree that he will turn the D around in 17.

I didn't think you meant anything else, but I know a lot has already lost faith in Shoop. He said the other day he and Butch talked about the scheme not being what it needed to be. I think with the unbelievable injuries that happened, Shoop was forced to change some things and what he did didn't work. There's just no way IMHO that you have such success at dang Vanderbilt and the Penn St yet be a bust here.

CBJ had said earlier that there would be staff shuffling. I think DeBord was thinking of retiring or going to football operations or something like that. But if you are offered a job to be closer to your family and family at that time is important, you take it.

The snag with Helfrich is Chip Kelly. Right now, I think Butch has to make some sort of power move..

And I think the power move was done today or yesterday. I think Butch told DeBord/Indiana to go ahead an announce it. Think about it... if Helfrich agrees to just QB, that's less money.. then DeBord steps down and have an interim type OC.

An OC job is better than a QB job. So now it's not just Helfrich as a candidate. It's Helfrich and others. The time clock is ticking for Helfrich now. He can take it or wait for Chip Kelly.. but Butch won't allow that.

I'd be more worried about Chip Kelly taking Helfrich for a staff if it weren't that every legit vacancy is already filled. I think Kelly stays in the NFL or sits out a year similar to Les Miles.

Like I said Mark may not be a great HC but if you look at his time at Oregon Offense was never the problem. It was a horrible Defense that eventually cost him his job.

Respectable points but I just don't see Debord going anywhere unless there were already plans in place.

Please tell me any benefit to Helfrich "trolling" Butch or any coach in such a way. That's just an ignorant way of thinking. You, nor I, will never understand the intricacies that go into contracts like these people sign. Just because a person is interested in a job doesn't mean they can step right in. I'm sure there have been plenty of jobs that people wanted, and where they were wanted by the employer but couldn't come together on terms that worked well for both sides. To say that because he doesn't come means it's a troll job is just another person trying to find more excuses to not like Butch.

I'm not a Helfrich fan. I think he's waiting for Chip Kelly or some other job. I think Butch proposed the QB coach job with a potential of getting the OC/QB. I can see Helfrich "agreeing" to those terms but bailing out if Chip offers him something.

Not going to bash him for his WRs staying hurt, but let's be honest Malone was the only guy to ever step up consistently and make plays. The star studded WRs have been average since his arrival. The guys not horrible at all, at you make a point about a true downfield threat at QB hurting his case, but I'm tired of the WRs not knowing how to block or be consistent.

Jennings has been consistent and made plays.... Byrd has been very good for a rookie when he played... ZA's recruiting prowess and coaching has been just fine... People think because Dobbs can do no wrong, its the wideouts' fault that the passing numbers aren't better.

Western Kentucky needs an OC and Helfrich's name isn't mentioned for it. Same for Minnesota.

Perhaps because he's not entertaining the idea when he can walk into a place like UT?

Or are you saying that meaning if UT didn't already have him as a done deal, then you would think others would have him listed as possible?

You're right. I think losing JRM and then Kirkland was a huge monkey wrench in the scheme.

Actually you are wrong. He lost his job because he had no defense... His offense was just fine.

Something tells me that if Helfrich is our guy he will be hired fast. Butch doesn't let Debord go unless he has his guy waiting in the wings imo.

Butch has options. I think this is a power move. If Helfrich doesn't take it, he will promote someone on staff.

I believe it's Helfrich til it isn't. I'm ok if it's not as long as it's not an upgrade to a current staff member. I think too much is on the line for him he must hire a proven OC whether it's Helfrich or someone else.

I think it's important now to make a good Oline coach hire, plus SC Coach, DB coach.

Then fire Jones and hire Kelly as HC and Helfrich as OC/QBC. All the problems are solved and VN would be one big happy family again.

VN happy ? Never .... And you really think a guy that had a past show cause will ever get a job at UT ? See the 2 of the last 4 basketball coaches

Actually no. Dobbs has been the biggest issue - well OL has hindered UT a lot - but there has been way too many dropped balls in 4 years and WRs not blocking well on those bubble screens. Jennings has not been consistent (I'm not knocking the guy he was aQB before being a great rookie and still young now).
I've seen so many freaking games where (when the CBs actually make great coverage) opponents WRs make amazing crunch time catches time after time, and UT WRs get so close.. then the bal hits the ground or they drop the big pass. Malone has been the only real threat consistently. I've been disappointed in guys too often, including Josh Smith.
I just don't see why we have to settle for a "decent" WR coach when I see great production from other groups across the country.
But we are now past the Dobbs era and Dormady/Guarantano could help make the group the best in the league and nation.

Love Butch or hate him you have to agree that he makes the changes that have to be made to compete in the SEC.

The only job he will take is UCLA or Stanford if those jobs become open/offered.

Just think about that. Lots of West Coach NFL/college jobs in that scenario. And Chip Kelly and Helfrich are West Coast guys.
