I'd be worried for Gruden's health. I'm pretty sure he's going to have a heart attack on the sideline one day. I'm afraid that Crompton would have killed him (literally) this year.

Gruden will not level the pro's people. Haven't you watched any sports shows they said he is getting ready to sign a 5 year extension and why would someone take a paycut to come deal with the most insane and absent minded fans!

Gruden should understand life expectancy of NFL coaches. The further he gets away from that Super Bowl the closer he will be to getting oustered. For example I.E. Fulmer the got too far away from that National Championship and he is gonna be outta here. Plus the desparity in NFL and SEC coach money isn't what it once was

:lolabove: Oh, I guess you must be Gruden's confidante and know exactly what he's thinking. Don't you realize that tons of Bucs fans want Chucky out? One more bad season and he'll likely get the axe anyway, so why not go to a program where people are dying to have you and you know you'll have a longer shelf life? $hit, we put up with tons of subpar seasons with Fulmer (though he did actually get us an NC title). I am willing to bet Chucky is seriously considering the jump. Don't give me he's going to take a paycut argument, because the boosters are more than willing and able to pay him more than he makes now. Don't be jealous that UT has the best fan base in all of college football (hell, maybe even in ALL of football). We have more heart and passion than the rest of you hacks. :rock2:

Some of you would like to see Jon Gruden as the new coach. Jon won the Super Bowl with the team Tony Dungy put in place. His record since 2002.

During this time his total record is 42 wins and 47 losses.
Can someone help me understand why we would want a coach with this record?

Jon Gruden has the ability to light a fire under our team, which let's admit it; we're pretty much on life support right now. He's a motivator, he's tough, and he doesn't have a problem getting in someone's face and telling them their effing up. Obviously, the passive agressiveness of Fulmer wasn't getting the job done. Also, as we've seen with the likes of Carrol, Spurrier, etc, NFL failure usually translates in to College success. Gruden could likely be more in his element with a college program, because his antics are going to have more of an impact on college kids, rather than overpaid men with huge egos in the NFL. Gruden's demeanor reminds me a lot of Saban, but a bit more intense. It's worked for Bama, so I say bring him in!!

It's harder to coach in the NFL where every1 is good,it's hard to win.
With him having complete control of the program here...there is no question he could very well have the team dominate opponents in 2-3 years.

has anybody been to Tampa bay's site. when you first pull up the page it shows an interview with gruden about the first half of the season and the upcoming second half but not once does he say I am not leaving Tampa or does he say he is not interested in the Tennessee Job. The person interviewing doesn't even ask a question that leans toward the topic. And also the have a thread like this one on their message boards about him leaving. they like us would like a little information regardless.

There are only two things that might compel Gruden to come to UT.

One would be that he's unhappy with his Tampa job, for reasons unknown. This seems unlikely as the Bucs could very well make the playoffs and his job seems quite secure. He's been in that job for a while, so there could be factors we are unaware of--but it's not like he's on the outs in Tampa. He's an established, fairly successful NFL coach.

The other thing that might compel him to look at UT is that is wife is unhappy and Tampa and really wants to leave/come back to Tennessee because of her family. This might be a possibility, but the family has been settled in Tampa for years--and they are obviously living very well. If Gruden and/or his wife is unhappy, we've got a chance--but that's our only chance. He'd also have to disrupt Tampa's season by making an announcement of some kind somewhat soon--so that we could salvage our recruiting class. He'd piss off everybody in his organization, and there will be pressure not to do that. I think Gruden is a longshot.

You guys are nuts all you have to do is turn it on the sports animal right now and they flat out said there is no way John Gruden is coming here. And they are bashing all this stupid threats about people playing golf etc.. and this is coming straight from the Knox News!!

I told my husband I'd be thrilled to get him, but I'm afraid he'd have a heart attack before he was 50.

They really know what they're talking about! All media types are gonna act like they have the inside scoop, who's in, who's out, or who they want is coach etc. But the fact remains, UT will interview who they think meets their criteria for a coach and Hammy basically has stated several times this week that they will be looking far and wide for the next coach.

Gruden's record is misleading because the Bucs have been rebuilt since the Super Bowl. They went from the oldest team in the league to one of the youngest and are now on the way back up.

Right now, all coaches except Cut, Chavis, Muschamp are in play.... and I hope we get Gruden! :rock:

For what it's worth, and in this crowd of football intellectuals it may not be worth much. I have had a ton of Sooner/Cowboy fans tell me if the Vols get Gruden the Vols are gonna be lethal again down the road, because he's just what we need, fire and brimstone discipline.
