If Dooley Wins 7 games

Larry, with the income football makes, where has the money gone? Did Hammy overreach on all of his renovations and new facilities? Do the big donors have a problem with Hart so they've put their checkbooks away? IYO, what is the source of the problem?

the facility improvements come from the capital side.

Football has to support the entire athletic department. Season ticket sales have dropped the last few years from around 70K to 55K. that is a lot of $$$.

then we have had all the coaching buyouts they have been paying out.

when ticket sales are down, donations are down. revenue is down.. expenses, like all expenses, don't go down.

the problem is a losing football program plus bad economy plus HD televisions..

I have people calling me for individual game tickets throughout FB season and I can always call UT and get them seats. 90% of the time, lower level seats. Been that way for about 5 years now. that trend tells me revenue has to be down.

Nine regular season wins minimum should be the expectation. Anything less he should be fired. We need to beat a decent team this year.

Disagree... Everyone knew this would be a 4 year rebuilding project, granted he needs a signature win this year.
I believe Hart will at least let him finish his current contract, I do not want UT to spend more money on a buy-out. Besides Dooley has a healthy team, and with his recruiting we should be good, but 9 wins or fired is not practical... IMO

I don't think it's all wins and losses. I think it's partly how the team looks. If they are competitive in all games with seven wins, I think he stays.

And with Miami going to face discipline soon, I bet we could get him.

Golden's contract was extended 4 more years last November (after all the NCAA issues were announced) so he is under contract through 2020. He ain't moving here unless we are willing to pay his buyout to Miami. Likely he ain't going anywhere..

Then they dodged a bullet. Rich Rod did well at WVU and with enough time, would have at Michigan.

However, it is easy to see that his offense takes time to implement. Especially when you are changing styles completely.

so,you would be willing to give Rich Rod the time to turn aroung a program because he is running a complety diffrent type of offense, yet you are not willing to give Dooley the time with what he walked into,to turn Ten. around.
i would hate to see you as an AD.you would be fireing your coaches every two years.:p

Sherman has never won a SB as a head coach.

Butch Davis has never won a SB or NC as a head coach and was fired for NCAA problems.

Gruden...throw the checkbook at him.
Gruden won the sb with another mans players and has never coached a college game.you don't even know if he could recruit.BAD IDEA.:)

I'm not going to go through all 15 pages, but seems to me that the raw win-loss record is a poor measure. I mean, if he won 8 games but got blown out by rivals, there'd be pressure. Similarly, if he won only 6 but one of those was Alabama, he'd be nominated around here for sainthood.

Depends on how you look doing whatever you get done this year, imo.

those are valid reasons an AD doesn't have a total win count as the measure. If flukes led to two losses and the total went from 8 to 6, do you fire a coach? of course not.. why performance is more important. also why fans are not ADs. :)

This is a joke, right?

I have talked to players on the team. If he does not win 8 games, it is a well known fact that he will be fired. The players as well as Dooley know it

This is pure BS. The only one who knows is Hart. He is likely to keep him through 5 seasons instead of starting over unless there is a complete meltdown.

MH decided that we didn't need our season tickets anymore, so he took them away from us and the folks at the ticket office told us there was no such thing as an inheritance. MH decided to implement an absolutely ridiculous Student Ticket purchasing program that I don't think has been the same for two consecutive years yet (probably wrong but it seems that way). I can buy ANY game on Comcast for $35 and watch it on my 62" television. I don't pay $20 for parking, I don't pay $100 for two tickets, I don't get felt up before a game just to make sure that I don't have a first half drink and a second half drink hidden somewhere, and I don't pay a zillion dollars for a nasty hotdog and watered down soda. Now, having said that, I love going to the games. There is nothing like it, but with the economy being what it is, I can't risk season tickets. LWS and I were talking about them earlier this year and I almost pulled the trigger. After having been furloughed and basically put back on "contract", I am glad that I didn't. I am an Engineering Consultant and when jobs go south, the money stays at home. Besides, I am still putting one through Archetecture and the other is in Engineering Grad School. You want to see attendance increase, offer parents of students discounted tickets while their kids are in school (certain restrictions would apply). If they are missing 20k butts in seats to buy concessions, then there you go.

Do any of you feel like he has to win 8 games to keep his job, or will he keep it with only 7 wins? I am thinking its 8 or bust, 7 gets him fired.

If Dooley wins only 7 then I think he should be gone. This team and schedule are better than that.

That said, I don't think he will be. I have softened on that view but haven't changed it yet. I think his buyout gets in the way. It will be next to impossible though for him to survive past '13. I think he would have to win the division at a minimum in '13 if he wins only 7 this year. With the players expected to leave early, that would be a very tall order.

As others have said though, it probably matters who he beats. He might even survive a 6-6 season if one of those wins was Bama. If another was UGA, USCe, or UF then he would likely survive IMO.

Well said....sad but true.

Like one of the earliest posts said, I think results will be better so I don't think it will get to the gray area. I think he's good at 8 and golden at 9. UF is a pretty big game for Dooley IMO. Win it and he is well positioned to get 8 or 9 wins. Lose it and the pressure mounts to beat a better team. Beating UF would also be a recruiting coup.

At risk of sounding fatalistic...more important than when he goes is how its done. Sure hope Hart is better than Hamilton at making the transition...and for goodness sake don't rely on a stinkin' agent to lead your search!

Here's a situation too that I don't think has been considered. In 2012 CDD goes 10-2 and wins a NYD bowl 11-2 - Bray & Co. go to NFL and its 6-6 in 2013. Does he go then?

The nasty UK hangover means Dooley has more to prove. Any time you lose a team that badly at a cakewalk of a game, with a bowl on the line, you leave a lot of questions on the table. Ten wins will make most fans think that Dooley's our guy; 8 or 9 wins will make most fans think he deserves the benefit of the doubt; 7 wins will tip sentiment against him; 6 wins will have fans calling for him to be fired before the end of the season.

You can't keep losing to all your rivals plus the bottom-tier of the SEC and expect to keep your job. I don't think he'll survive seven wins or a loss to Florida unless the team kicks a$$ the rest of the season. Florida is the domino. It's a must-win for Dooley and the Vols, and I think we'll come out with a W, setting up an 8-win season. JMO.

Depends on how he gets to 11-2. If they luck into then no, but if the gameplan looks good and they out coach the other teams , that would mean that they are good coaches. It would be stupid to fire a coach that when they have good players they win. So we would definitley fire him.
