Right now, would he be able to possibly keep his job? I have never seen a worse coached defense in my 45 years of watching UT FB. Sunseri is a joke and our players are totally confused on defense. It's not as much a lack of talent as it is pathetic coaching. If we had Wilcox, we would be 7-2 right now. It's a shame that we have such a prolific offense but can't play a lick of D.

I was thinking the same thing about Wilcox. He wasn't overly impressive, but he would probably have a middle of the road college defense which would have easily beat several teams this year with our offense. IMO, Dooley won't be firing anyone because he already knows he's out at end of year.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Knoxville — mighty Dooley has struck out.

This is the problem. Some do not want to hold Dooley accountable for anything. If the team wins go Dooley. If the team loses the ones that like Dooley want the heads of the off. or def. coordinators. It wasn't long ago Chaney was the main problem, but now its Sal.

My take on it.
If he is fired, look for Dooley to be back next year.

If nothing happens, then I would use the old saying "the silence is deafening" and expect bigger changes at seasons end.

Are there really any Dooley Supporters left?

Do not underestimate the density of a Doolander.

The old "fire the assistants and save the head coach" routine was done this past off season. Huge FAIL on the defensive side. Good luck with your life and the $5 million Dools.

This is his last DC job he gets. Sunseri will never be a DC again! If we had a half decent D we would be at least be 6-2. Might have beaten UF, don't think we could have beaten Bama.

I definitely wasn't saying we should keep Dooley even if he fires Sunseri. IMO, it's the blind leading the blind. Neither can coach worth a sh&t!

I don't believe that there is anyway that Dooley is here next year. Recruiting is slow, fans are restless, and the product on the field is declining each week.

Sunseri will NOT be fired. He was hired as an assistant coach not a DC. If we fire him we have to pay his buyout. If he gets demoted and quits, he breaches his contract and we don't. He ain't going anywhere unless Dooley does.

Something else to consider. IF Dooley were to fire Sal and try to hire another top DC in the 800,000-1 million/year range, do you think Hart would want to sign them to a 2-3 year deal with Dooley's future up in the air? We would still have to pay Sal 1.84 million to walk away. I just don't see it happening myself.

I think Dooley wrote this poem in the Wal-Mart bathroom stall at the Walker Springs exit on 40.....

They paint these walls...
to hide my pen.
But the $#!TT!E$T Coach in the S.E.C.....
has struck again!!!!!

Maybe we should sue him for impersonating a Defensive Coordinator.:rock:

We'd be 8-1. We outplayed Florida for 3 quarters, and it was the blown assignments on defense, giving up those 80 yard runs that cost us that game too.
As others have said though, the buck stops at the head coach. There is no excuse for being 4-5 with a narrow victory over Troy, and a worse performance against Akron, than Kent State had today. The Claufense cost Fulmer, and the Sunseri D will cost Dooley.
