If Dobbs redshirt gets burned this weekend?

This game is a loss no matter who you put in at QB given this Oline. Two years in a row CBJ has tried to redshirt Dobbs and if he plays him tomorrow it'll be two years in a row he burned his redshirt, and it'll be a huge waste of an extra year for Dobbs.

Here's the thing. Red shirting players is a luxury. The decision to RS a player is based on many factors one of which is depth at a given position.

In this particular case we don't have depth. If Worley cannot play then Dobbs is an injury away from having to play anyway.

Further, no one can predict what will happen next year. Dobbs could get hurt in the first game for all we know.

If it's true that Jones talked with Dobbs' parents as reported by Basilio and others and they are on board (which seems like a very nice gesture on CBJ's part), I'm fine with it.

Ultimately, the players and coaches have too much invested in THIS season not to roll the best player out there at the most critical position.

There's a good chance it gets burnt tomorrow. Worley is out. What are the odds Peterman staying healthy the whole game behind this OL? It is what it is right now.

If Dobbs was any good he wouldn't be where he's been since arriving in Knoxville. I don't subscribe to this idea that kids grow up and are only awful because they're freshmen. You either have it...or you don't. Awful freshmen make bad sophomores who might make somewhat decent juniors and so on. Sure there are the exceptions, but we've all seen the impact freshmen around the league and you know who's got it from day 1. Incoming recruits are our future at QB, so pull that redshirt and get him some playing time.

You talking about Dobbs right...you just described Peterman in a nutshell!

Drugs are a scary, scary thing.

Well, if used in the wrong way, well yes. If used in the proper way, well, it's an enlightening and awesome experience. Oh, did I go to the well once too often?
Actually, I would have loved to see Dobbs in a couple of games where his speed and dexterity may have been an asset. Poor old Worley never had a gunslingers chance of escaping a hard rush.I don't think Dobbs will be here four years anyway. After next year he will be designing rockets or something.

Does not matter if they burn it or not he will not play 4 more years!!! You can bet he will be putting his degree to use as soon as he can!

Let's end this argument play Peterman...let him stink up the place put the walk-on qb in if peterman gets hurt...redshirt Dobbs and let's finish 4-8...how about Vol fans? Come on guys if Peterman was all that the coaches would not even think about playing Dobbs...they have no faith in peterman whatsoever!

I already posted this but will again. Dobbs and his family look at things a different way for his future. They signed with TN last year assuming a RS. Due to 3 injuries at qb, it had to be burned. They wanted one this year as well for their son to grow on the practice field and focus on his academics (Dak Prescott didn't play much until his 3rd year at Ms st, for reference, while Dobbs was forced into action as a true freshman in a completely new system to all players around him). Butch was trying to do the right thing in regards to his agreement with the parents when Dobbs committed.

That's sounds plausable

Sorry Spartacavolus. My fat thumbs messed up your post,

With Wooley down and possibly out, depending on who's uncle's cousin's nephew's brother's sister's mother's daddy you hear it from, and by the way "Deer In Headlights" Peterman has shown us so far, Butch may not have a choice.
Can't play the Wild Hurd/Pig/Beast all game!
Or can we.......

Where's the "I don't care" option? I'm pretty sure the QB of the future is not currently on the roster so I don't think redshirts matter at this point.

Promise I'm not trying to be an idiot here.

I never heard about this story. Curiouus as to where it came from.

But to be honest if a player doesn't play and he's 3rd string wouldn't you redshirt him anyway? And to be fair to team... it kinda.sounds like he didnt wannna play last year and now doesn't wanna play so he can redshirt. Not saying heDOESNT wanna play football cuz he's obviously still on the team competing every practice. IDK just sounds like an odd situation lol

Here is my conspiracy theory hope.

Dobbs had accuracy problems in camp because of his newly added weight and strength. He has settled in over time and now gives us the best chance to win over Peterman rest of season.

From what I have read, accuracy was his biggest problem which lead to confidence issues.

I wish there was an "I don't really care either way" option.

I don't think Dobbs is our total answer to a QB, burn it or not Im going to back the players and the Coaches...
