If Dobbs was any good he wouldn't be where he's been since arriving in Knoxville. I don't subscribe to this idea that kids grow up and are only awful because they're freshmen. You either have it...or you don't. Awful freshmen make bad sophomores who might make somewhat decent juniors and so on. Sure there are the exceptions, but we've all seen the impact freshmen around the league and you know who's got it from day 1. Incoming recruits are our future at QB, so pull that redshirt and get him some playing time.

Because Freshman don't get played unless the veteran QB's are hurt or they are absolutely stellar from the beginning which is an anomaly.

If you are burning a redshirt banking on a freshman QB getting starting time then you are delusional and you are making a huge mistake.

I'm not counting on nothing. I'm just saying it has happened before, and it'll happen again. None of us know what is in store between now and next season. One of the freshman may be that great, one of our guys now may be gone, anything can happen. To say something a year away is impossible without that year being lived by all individuals is inaccurate.

If his RS get burned and we win, it would be worth it 10x over. If his RS gets burned and we lose, so what? CBJ should be recruiting over him anyway, shouldn't need him in 2 years.

No it is not. It's not going to happen anyway and burning redshirts to try and salvage it is just stupid and desperate.

First off, he's not third string, he was put there on purpose to be redshirted. He's not insignificant either. He's the best QB we'll have after Worley leaves. We will only have two options on QB next year and that's Peterman and Dobbs. The freshman QB's will not be played.

I really hope Dobbs does get to redshirt, but given the circumstances Butch may not have a choice

Here is my conspiracy theory hope.

Dobbs had accuracy problems in camp because of his newly added weight and strength. He has settled in over time and now gives us the best chance to win over Peterman rest of season.

I'm pretty sure Peterman is getting the nod for tomorrow? I might be wrong hell I've heard 30 different stories today

Im ill that we didnt burn it during Georgia. I got pissed when we didnt burn it against Florida. I really dont want to waste it now, but we HAVE to go bowling... So im excited to see him. I guarantee he's better than we have been led to believe.

Absolutely!

There's a reason CBJ has the right to make this decision...and the rest of us are here on VolNation debating it.

GBO!!!
I don't feel he should have the power to make that call....hell if he can't take any blame why let him?

You would only be concerned about a redshirt if, 3 year's from now, Dobbs would be the best QB in our lineup. Nothing against Dobbs, but I hope we have recruited a better QB by then. BTW...this really goes for all the other players too. If they are better than your other choices, then play them by all means.

I'm okay with playing Dobbs. At least then all the couch coaches around here would finally get to see that he is not the second coming of Condredge Holloway. If he was worth all that he would have started game one.

How come every team that puts in a backup beats us, why can't we put in a backup and win, just curious.

it's coaching to fit the player and we dont do that, it also involves the player wanting actually win and perform well in games not just practice.

The fact he can tuck the ball and run is all I need to know I think it would take some of the attention off Hurd and give him a chance to get loose and beside he has some more talent at the wide out this year.

I already posted this but will again. Dobbs and his family look at things a different way for his future. They signed with TN last year assuming a RS. Due to 3 injuries at qb, it had to be burned. They wanted one this year as well for their son to grow on the practice field and focus on his academics (Dak Prescott didn't play much until his 3rd year at Ms st, for reference, while Dobbs was forced into action as a true freshman in a completely new system to all players around him). Butch was trying to do the right thing in regards to his agreement with the parents when Dobbs committed.

seems that Dobbs was going to be here for 3 to 4 years and that is it. His career is not on a football field and if UTK cannot support his graduate studies I would think he would be gone in 4 anyway. So he has 3 years left. I never understood the RS to begin with anyways.

Furthermore, why not burn it before you have to do so. Like possibly now. Why let talent sit on the bench and just rot. If he knows the system and has the ability then unchain him. He can throw better on the run anyways.

This is where the OC has failed the system by not making adjustments to play to the players strengths. Instead we are running the same offense that some of the players just don't get.

I know it is a arm chariest type comments but it is obvious that some of the players because of their youth don't get the concept of the offense and the OC refuses to adjust to their needs.

Alabama is averaging like 13 or 14 points on the road. If Dobbs starts, this is going to be a ballgame. If any other QB starts, i'm afraid we will lose pretty bad. I especially do not want to start Peterman and then bring in Dobbs. CBJ keeps the starting qb in for too long imo.

He can get ahead in school and have fewer class requirements during what should be the peak of his college career, and UT can support grad studies.

Repeat after me

"I know nothing. I am forming my opinion with nothing more than small tidbits of information carefully released by the coaching staff and three minutes of video. Therefore I fully recognize I am an idiot for attempting to defend my position as if I actually know something and should simply go and have a drink or six and just enjoy the weekend."

You will feel better.

But?...then we wouldn't get to see Peterman redefine the position?
