If CBJ is gone, why not Mike Macintyre??

If you are truly serious, why do we never hear of Jim Bob visiting his alma mater? You know? Attending alumni events or athletic ceremonies? He doesn’t appear to have an attachment to this place and it would take some kind of bond to win over a NFL candidate that has his career arc.

I admit I have zero knowledge of his interest to be here, but I would certainly hope they gauge that. As far as attending stuff, the guy is an o coordinator in the nfl. I'm sure his schedule is full to say the least. Do I care or blame him for not attending the events? Absolutely not. Having said that he very well might not be interested but he would be among my first calls. Like I said 0 knowledge of his interest but in theory he would seem obtainable as would Mike Leach who I also wouldn't mind seeing

For what it's worth Coach Mac was the Pac 12 Coach of the Year last year. Had all 4 starting DB's drafted if I'm not mistaken.

That said, I'm happy with him in Boulder. He's done a good job getting "the Vandy" of the Pac 12 outta the cellar. He's fine where he's at imo. Should be well down the list of potential hires.

I met Mike many many moons ago when he was on a date with a good friend and his dad was still the Vandy coach. He was a nice guy and fun to be around. I've casually followed him over the years and watch as he rose thru the ranks of coaching. He's actually done well and with each stop he gets a little better and the programs get larger.

That being, not sure if he's a good fit for us. While he could be considered one of the bottom up n comers, I dont think this fan base has enough patients to wait for him to succeed. Dooley only got 3 years and Butch has been on the fire-birds hot seat since at least year 3. There's no way Mike would be able to survive with this fan mentality.

I like MacIntyre quite a bit. He's a Tennessee guy (went to HS in Nashville) and has taken 2 programs that historically are pretty bad and made them semi-relevant.

That being said, he is outside of my top 3 right now.

Brentwood Academy, played for Carton Flatt.

For him to redirect his present course as a future NFL HC to coach the college game at his alma mater, I’d think that he has an indisputable love for said institution. He’s doing his own thing and ain’t coming home to save us...JMO. Leach fixes the X’s and O’s issues...nothing else...also JMO.

He would have been a good coach after Dooley, but Butch already brought us back into being semi-relevant. We need a coach that can take a program to the next level.

A football game is just live action chess. Most teams start with a decent chess player and an incomplete number of pieces. Compare that to Saban and Meyer who are chess masters and have all their pieces. Guys like Butch and MacIntyre are good at getting most of the pieces for a team, but are bad at playing the game. Guys like Cutcliffe, Bill Snyder, and Chris Petersen (while at Boise St) are good chess players but never have all the pieces.

I have no idea who he is and I refuse to Google him. If I don't immediately recognize the name, I'm out..

Then why bother posting?? A pretty good summary of him by OP is just 2 pages back. I really think fans who don't recognize the 2016 AP National Coach Of The Year and 2016 PAC 12 Coach Of The Year, and "refuse to Google him" probably shouldn't have much input into UT's coaching search.

:hi:

I feel like this is currently our weakest link. Tennessee is a good place to recruit. Keep Bob Shoop bring in Mike Leach try to keep some of our key recruiters and go out and get the rest. Regardless of a lot of people's feelings I feel like Shoop calls a good game and I like generally like what I've seen for the defense.

If it gets to the point that we're looking at guys like this we're in worse shape that I thought.

You do understand we are going to hire a guy like that, right? Once you get past the stupid, unrealistic names like Kelly, Gruden, and Stoops, you get into guys like MacIntyre.

There are no "home run hires." Those guys already have great jobs.
