Neither school will announce a successor until the season is over. Both the UT and UW coach are staying on until the season ends.

I predict whoever is approached first will decline. And yes Kiffen wants Washington as his #1 gig. He's from the West Coast and had already established himself there. Don't forget UW used to be a powerehouse so who's to say Kiffen can't turn it back into one like USC?
why would he not have already taken the UW job?

I remember when Gruden took the Bucs to the Super Bowl and the media did a story about how the man wakes up at 3:30am every morning to go to work. Makes me feel real lazy for hitting the snooze button 5 times every morning at 5:30. I hope he will be waking up in Knoxville next fall.

I have reservations about people like Chris Peterson (Boise). He can coach an exciting offense, but not sure he can recruit the south.
I Agree:thumbsup:

I dont see UT missing out on all 3 of Gruden, Kiffin, or Davis. One of those will be our coach by Christmas, IMO.

Week 17 is Sunday, Dec. 27, and the Bucs might make the playoffs. So, the timing of a Gruden hire would be complicated.

I see what you are saying. For one, the SEC is not the PAC 10. Big Game Pete has not prepared him for the pressures of the SEC venues. No PAC 10 stadium (with exception to the noise level at Oregon) compares to the volume and atmosphere of most of the SEC venues.

However, I also don't consider the Oakland Raiders a true coaching job. His hands were tied and that was a bad situation. However, I think that he came out of that looking better because of the strange things that Al Davis pulled on him. Jury is still out on his coaching abilities.

Avoid muschamp---his defenses have gotten torched this year, even with top talent. Plus, he's a loose cannon on the sideline and would blow a gasket when a player screws up.

the two bolded pieces make no sense in the same thought.

he has all amateurs in the secondary. they are not THAT talented. everyone always says great things about him. and since when is it wrong to show passion?? i personally want him as our coach

UW facilities are horrendous.

Do you know Coach Kiffen or something? How do you know what school is #1 on his list? Just cause he coached at USC doesnt make him want to take over UW, where he would be competing for recruits and wins with his former boss. If he is offered the UT job, I would wager he takes it without a second thought.

He was born in Minnesota.

I fail to see what the stadium and atmosphere would have to do with his ability to coach....and i would imagine he is quite used to "big" games, having coached at USC where they were constantly playing for the national title, and always having that big target on their backs. I do agree with your assessment on his Oakland job. No coach can succeed in that black hole of a coaching job with their senile, control freak owner. Just looks at some of Warren Sapp's comments on his playing days there.....impossible to run the team the way you want out there.

Cowher then Gruden should be first choice! If both decline then we should look at getting Peterson let it be known Chavis stays or we get to select the defense coordinator not Peterson. We need his wide open offense but his defense is sub-par. The other canditates that have been mentioned such as Patterson,Leach and Kelly would be no better then if we had kept Fulmer. The Butch Davis blogs is a waste of text because UNC will pay him even if they go into their BB program to raise the funds.

then who else would be a leading candidate?

I think that Brady Hoke (Ball State) is doing a good job with a limited resources-type program.

Bronco Mendenhall (BYU) has turned their program around.

Chris Peterson (Boise) has been mentioned on several posts.

Will Muschamp (Texas) also has been mentioned.

Would love to hear what other names we can speculate about.

Mike Leach is the right choice.

Kiffin makes no sense to me. Leach would have Pearl like success that would only get better when he starts recruiting his type players.
