If Butch goes 9-4

The sunshine pumping coach worshipping sect of our fanbase are clueless. I don't think anyone here expects 15-0 seasons.

We expect to be competitive for the East...especially in a down year like 2016--we weren't and haven't been.

We expect to beat Vandy...we are not doing a good job with this either.

We expect the back half of our SEC schedule to be a "break" and really not have to worry about those games and coast into post season....we haven't had this in a long while.

Everyone knows that the SEC is very tough, but with the program Tennessee has, the players, the history, and the loyal fans, the product on the filed really needs to be MUCH better.

can't totally disagree....but, thing is....they were and were the past 2 years. Coming in second is competitive...just maybe not to the level many wanted. No valid excuse for losing to SC nor Vandy, but there were obstacles and impediments that had bearing and should be acounted for...to a degree.

9-4 = 69.2%
UT's all-time is 68.2%.

What is that supposed to mean?

Bill Battle won 72% of his games at Tennessee and not too many hold him in high regard as a head coach here, certainly not a championship coach, which is the type of coach we should always strive have run the program.

That 68.2% also includes guys like George Kelley (1901, 3-3-2), S.D. Crawford(1904, 3-5-1), James Depree (1905-06, 4-11-3), WH Britton (1935, 4-5) and of course, Derek Dooley (15-21 in his 3 recent dreadful years). So are we good with the teams under their purview because they're part of that 68.2%?

No, we should aim for/demand championship level coaches like we've had in our past that have made Tennessee an all-time great national program....guys like Neyland, Fulmer, Wyatt, Dickey and Majors.

Perhaps Jones gets there starting next season with his first team in 5 proving to be one that can overachieve and win games its not supposed to on the way to, at least, an SECe division title....but nothing I've seen thus far gives me faith in him to do it.

He's done a great job off the field, rebuilding a mess and getting us back to being a winning team, with winning records on the field, and props to him for that ....now he's gotta show he can lead his Tennessee teams to winning titles at any level.

A team fielded mostly with incoming Frosh. may have difficulty with a Vandy or SC team with Muschamp at the helm, but not with a roster of veterans as CBJ had during the 2016 season. Taking into account the variable factors involved with personnel, those 2 games should have been in the W column. Beat Vandy, go to the Sugar Bowl. How much more motivation was needed?

Here's what some aren't getting imo. 9-4 isn't a bad season. But when you have the talent and experience we did this year, it absolutely is.

There in lies the other factor. We had that talent until we didn't have that talent due to injuries.

Battle was a really good on the field, xs and Os coach. He on a lot of games with Dickey’s talent. His problem was recruiting. He would/could not recruit a thirsty horse to drink water. He turned down really good players his assistants recruited time after time. Talent went from SEC championship to near the bottom of the Conference in 3-4 years.

Because BOTCH hired a Strength and Conditioning coach from McDonald's. It ALL leads back to the head chief.

All other teams deal with injuries too. How do they make it?

Alabama, lsu,gt are the only acceptable loses next year and gt is semi unacceptable with losses to the oter 2.... however I think the reality is 8-4 or 9-3 regular season uga,Bama, lsu and one of gt,UF,scar are losses I think uga goes 11-1 and wins the east fla goes 8-4 and tn goes 8-4 and tie for 2nd.... so is finishing 2nd and being in the mix good enough

For me it depends on staff changes, if butch makes minimal changes and promotes Scott to oc then no because butch hasn't realized his system needs help. If butch goes outside and makes a splash hire at oc, but the defense shows major improvement and the offense struggles because they were learning a new system then I think he deserves another year
