The money involved in modern college football gives every conference a reason to ensure the best team makes the playoffs for financial rewards to the entire conference.

It is not just the SEC. I glanced at the NC State Clemson thread, and someone posted there that at that moment, NC State had like 14 penalties, Clemson 0.

If you've watched these young guys play football long enough, you are as well aware as I am, that that's impossible, no matter how well coached.

It sucks, but it's reality. Every conference wants to be the headliner and reap all the TV money and rewards that come with it. And they don't mind to "assist" when necessary.

I hate Bama but I wish UT would pay 10 or 15 million to get Saban

In my opinion, theres a bigger gap between Saban and other SEC coaches than there is between the players on the upper tier SEC teams

Yes Bama is loaded but the Saban factor is real.

A very easy argument to make if this is based off what we saw in our game against Alabama. I guess it does not take much effort to ignore the fact that we finished that game missing:

4 of 5 starting linemen
a semi starting RB
3 of the top 4 DT's
4 of the top 5 linebackers
our top 2 CB's
One of our top 2 Safeties and our punt returner.

Are we where we want to be, depth wise? No.
Are we where Alabama is depth wise? No.
How do you reconcile the fact that we went to Tuscaloosa last year and were a couple of made FG's away from beating number #1 on their home field?

It has nothing to do with arbitrary star rankings from people who are hired by marketing companies presenting a marketable product that draws a great deal of interest. These marketers identify talented athletes That perform well on a football field. Based on what they see, in person or on film, they assign a rating to that athlete. These ratings have only one real purpose. They are to allow fans who consume the product, to present arguments that their portion of the product is better than anyone else's.

It has always been my opinion, which is all any of this is, that when a staff proves to me that they can identify talented football players, not from what a marketer tells them, but what their personal experience tells them, then I will trust their opinion, long before I will trust the marketers opinion.
