If Al Davis doesn't hire Kiffin = does Tennessee?

D.Hall did nothing more than run his mouth in Atlanta and Oakland. He not only ran his mouth to Wr he was trying to cover, but to his coaches as well. He consistently got burnt

Hall was never a pro bowl player, I think he looked a lot better than he was in Atlant because of the other corners. He has top tier speed but doesn't have the instincts to be an elite corner.

Having said that he was good enough to start in Oakland his problem there was he was playing opposite the best corner in the league and it exposed him a little.

umm...Champ Bailey plays in Denver.

Mike Shanahan made his entire game plan in the opening game around a rookie who has never played an NFL down exploiting Hall. And Brandon Marshall was out for the game. Hall sucks. His mouth makes him known, but his play leaves a lot to be desired.

Javon Walker was done after his second knee injury. Clearly talented guy, but he was WAY overpaid and washed up. And he's a butthole.

If it's true that Kiffin was the mastermind behind signing these 2, that is NOT a good thing. That being said, Al Davis is insane and I would never pass all blame on Kifin for the overallrecord during his tenure.

Al Davis also hired a young Mike Shanahan, and Jon Gruden. He's just made some terrible hires, huh.

Al Davis still knows how to find coaching talent. He just isn't patient and he's meddlesome. Basically, he's what George Steinbrenner was to the Yankees in the 1980s.

I don't see your point about Minnesota. Looking at Tim Brewster's resume and Lane Kiffin's as they were two years ago, they both look like excellent candidates. Minny thought Brewster would be a better fit. That doesn't mean Kiffin isn't a good choice for Tennessee.

Hell, Kiffin's resume should proudly proclaim in bold print at the top:

Fired by Al Davis-Oakland Raiders, 2008

There are very few better indicators of future success.

2008 TN VOLS 4-8 OR 5-7 What does this indicate?

I mean the Univerisity of Minnesota rejected him before Al Davis embraced him.

Are we making a hire that was created in large part because of the decision making skills of an aged Al Davis?

Actually a very valid point here. We would not have hired Kiffin if he never made it to the NFL and coached the Raiders.

Yes, Minnesota rejected him. Add that to the above paragraph, and it's troublesome. Did we make a huge mistake? You can draw that conclusion rather easily, and a lot of the talking heads have done just that.

I think Kiffin is a good hire. He has a lot to prove. If he bites the dust here, then his HC chances are slim to none. I think his upside is huge.

I wanted Butch Davis, but it appears he was more comfortable coaching in the ACC against far less talented teams/coaches. He has UNC in the running for the ACC title this year, and sees it as his easiest path to the BCS and NC. Good for Butch, we'll move on.

If Kiffin assembles the staff that has been floating around here, I don't see him failing. JMO.

Al Davis still knows coaches and football. Problem is he's so crazy that players have to be overpaid to even sniff Oakland...see javon walker and Deangelo Hall. Kiffin tried to do his best w/ what he could. But when ya got guys like Sapp and Moss saying the whole Raider org was a mess/disaster, there isn't much a guy like Kiffin could do.

I think Davis hired Kiffin because of who his dad is, and also because he was a young snot-nosed kid that would be a puppet on a string.

Evidently, Lane stood up to the Crypt Keeper, and that wasn't the proper thing to do in Raiderland. Kudos to Kiffin for doing so.

I think he would have been hired, if not here, then somewhere else. If he was not hired by Davis, he would be in the same class as Muschamp, Venables, and Pelini was last year. If he had stayed a coordinator at USC, and kept having success, with his pedigree, he would possibly be the hottest candidate available.....It he was still available. A lot of VERY good head coaches come from coordinator positions. People keep complaining about lack of head-coach experience, but forget about Stoops, Richt, etc.... not exactly "big splashes" when hired, but darn good coaches.

Given Minnesota's football history this half of the century, I don't think their opinion should be held in too high regard.

Not a chance UT hires Kiffin if Raiders don't make him head coach...not even interviewed. But Raiders did, so he's 20 games prepared for head coaching duties. Hopefully a quick learner...
