and we'll assume we get a calibar coach like Davis, how long will it take that coach to return UT to dominance, or at least competitive with the upper echelon teams?

2-3 yrs?

4-5 yrs?

In my opinion, no way to really figure that out. The hope would be 2-3 years, at least for me, but very good question.

If he took over next year, we would immediately be a 9 or 10 win regular season team. As far as competing at the top level nationally, I suppose expecting less than two years would be unreasonable.

You honestly believe Davis could walk in and get 9 or 10? New staff, new everything?

Boy, we are very patient are we?

Bring in a HC who runs a pro-style offense similar to UT's (almost a must for recruiting future NFL QBs) and who stresses the fundamentals, and I think we're competitive with everyone next season. We may lose several games but I think we keep it close and don't embarass ourselves against anyone. Much like when Cutcliff coached the offense. His precision and attention to detail turned Ainge and the offense around in one offseason. Someone else with those qualities could do the same.

I think the turn around could have been quicker had the coachng change occurred 2 or 3 years ago. Since we decided to let our coach hang on, the program has slipped furthur and will take some additional time to get some help in here, especially on both lines and at the QB position.

Look at what Nick Saban is doing at Bama. Butch Davis could have us back within a few years.

There would be instant improvement, but I would think two years with a Butch Davis type coach.

Rich Rodriguez is having issues his first year. Would UT fans tolerate a Toledo-Like loss the first year?

2-3 years with decent recruiting. I wonder if the new staff will find the UTAD offices trashed the same way the Bushies found their new digs when the Clinton staffers vacated?

I'm not sure that Rodriguez inherited the kind of talent that Meyer inherited. I don't know how to explain Saban.

I think Tennessee's talent level is closer to Florida's than Michigan's.
