I’ve driven in and around Cairo Georgia quite a bit over the years. The Syrupmakers name always amused me since the town is spelled like the city in Egypt but pronounced like the syrup company. There quite a few places in this state where the locals pronounce the name quite differently than the spelling would typically indicate.

My college roommate worked at Greyhound in Valdosta. Whenever he had a newbie, I would call in and ask for a three-way ticket to Attapulgus. Then there's NA(y)-hunta, over to the east. I always got a kick out of the hamlet of Attapulgus (just south of Climax), which either sounds like a fungal infection of one's nether-regions, a species of insect, or a name or location from a William Faulkner book.
Always thought it funny that Climax was next to Iron City. Then there's NA(y)-hunta, over to the east. There are a lot of interesting town names in South Georgia. I’m very familiar with the Attapulgus area. There is actually an Attapulgus Creek and Little Attapulgus Creek there. Then there's NA(y)-hunta, over to the east. Trivia: Junior Miss America Julie Bryant’s daddy owned a sawmill or something in Attapulgus.
