I don’t know, but it just seems like Scott and Canales were the two worst staff decisions that Butch could have made. I remember reading somewhere that Canales was supposedly a “respected” QB coach... if so, what the heck happened? The results with our QB play suggest otherwise.

There are those on this very board that find it hard to believe that even 10% of the fans (or members of this board) don't want the great butch fired!! Of course, their intelligence and sobriety are in constant question. I have never seen UT Football in this state of madness. Vol fans (without a question, the best fans in the NCAA) are more upset, more vocal, and more disgusted than in any time in our modern history. I guess as long as those tickets, and the mandatory donations (for season tickets) keep pouring in, the AD and the other powers to be, just don't care. The SEC network has brought so much money to SEC programs, the fans importance (buying tickets) has been moved down the ladder of what matters most.

Your first statement says it all. If Butch can get a real staff, keep him. Really?! So you think the staff he has built over the past 5 years is unacceptable and by some miracle Butch is going to see the light and go get him a proper, competent staff?

Why would this thread even exist??? The 1st statement was a new staff...do you realize butch picked this staff? We are back to Dooley days like when he hired bamas lb coach as DC. Had no DC experience.... Butch hired a oc with no of exp...

I agree with this. If we cant find a coach with a proven track record what have we got to lose. The powers to be would rather spend the money on the stadium than investing in a coach and assistants. I say carry on unless we can get a proven winner.

Its hard to imagine a world where Derek Dooley gets canned after 3 seasons and Butch somehow survives 5 seasons.

Why not give Butch 2 more years, after all he did say it took 7 years to build and SEC team, didn't he?

I appreciate all the good Coach Jones has done for Tennessee, but this is his fifth year and the program is going backwards. We are at the bottom of the SEC and might finish the season as conference skunk. You cannot chalk that up to luck, and it is not a matter of opinion. It is where we are. The AD has to make a change.

Butch said from day one that he'd have the best staff in the country and now we have on OC cordinator that has never been in that role since high school. Butch was too paranoid to hire the best man for the job just like Fulmer (Sanders) and end the end it costed Fulmer the job too. Glipse is the only winner call on the staff and I bet Shoop wished he stayed at Penn State with Franklin.

Butch has had five years to get it right and he's just not a power 5 caliber head coach.
Too bullheaded and can't develop young players worth a crap.

Time for UT to step up / put the big money down on the next hire and they would not have the need to be worried about all the buy outs on top of new coaches salary.

Anymore science project football head coaching hires and I'm done heading to "The Hill" and I've been going to Neyland since 1983.

If they can put $340 mil more into Neyland, then they surely got enough funds to get a no-brainer power 5 coach and staff.

Brian Kelly was 4 - 8 last year and on the hot seat. He brought in a new OC, DC, and Strength and Conditioning coach and now is 8 - 1 and ranked #3 with a rookie QB. So I guess it's possible Butch could do the same.

I think there are a lot of fans from other teams on this thread wanting us to keep Butch for obvious reasons. Beware my friends don’t be deceived.

If you want to embrace mediocrity and you are hoping for the possibility of one signature win every year, CBJ is your man. On the other hand, if you love Tennessee and want Tennessee to not only have the best of everything, but,BE the best of everything, you need to take BJ as far away from Tennessee's once proud football program as possible!

It's also possible to win Powerball...which is about as likely as Botch replicating Kelly's rebound/success.
